This over exuberant moderation has to stop.

Patron – What is wrong with you? When you were young did the other children refuse to let you play with them?

You closed/moved zrs70's thread *A F award: Best of Best here! for exceptionally dubious reasons. You say because he is using United Miles to pay for it belongs in the United forum. Absolute nonsense! It is specifically about a Star Alliance award that happens to be paid for with United Miles. It is of interest to those who fly *A and collect Miles on different airlines. What was wrong with leaving it where it was?

The *A and LH forums are becoming a joke. Or more correctly, you are turning them in to a joke. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

I closed this thread
on the *A forum and moved it to the UA forum, because this is the best place to discuss MP issues.

As the thread in question stayed on the *A forum, everybody has the opportunity to respond by simple clicking on the link I provided and within seconds it will appear.
This thread is about moderation (and not about *A); the best place to discuss such issues is the Only Randy Petersen forum and for housekeeping purposes I move it there.

Patron

While I commend you on your consistency, and am grateful that you always explain why a thread has been closed/moved, and provide a pointer to its new location, I agree with the posters who believe that you are over-enthusiastic.

You advise that your reasons for moving the noted thread are:

1. To the benefit of the poster as he should receive reliable answers from the experts.
2. To avoid confusion among others
3. To the benefit of FlyerTalk.

The original poster, zrs70, has been a registered Flyertalker for more than three years - I would imagine [but am happy to be corrected] that he meant to post in the *A forum to receive non-UA specific answers/comments.

It may avoid confusion amongst others, but it seems that for zvezda, at least, it has increased it, as he has asked for it to be mover back to *A.

Finally, it would seem from the number of posts regarding 'over-enthusiastic moderation' that there is a case for arguing that it would benefit Flyertalk more if it had not been moved.

I appreciate that you are moderating in the fashion which you believe to be best, and I am sure that we are all grateful for the work that you do - however, perhaps it would be for the benefit of all if you were to take heed of the opinions of other Flyertalkers, and moderate your moderating http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

regards

Stewart

Even though I am against overzealous/overexuberant moderation I have always found Patron's moderation reasonable. My two cents worth

Why am I not surprised that Patron moved this thread. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

Just in case Patron had failed to notice, zrs70 is a Moderator on the UA board. Do you not think he knows where a post belongs?

CameraGuy May 20, 2003 2:08 pm

In my opinion, no.

I have no idea if he/she is a good moderator or not, but he/she used to incorrectly post items to MilesBuzz all of the time.

Also,

At what point does the light shine? You have beaten this horse to death and Patron is still a moderator. Does this not tell you that Randy has no problem with the moderation?

If not, I would suggest that the problem is not Patron.

Well, here is a sure way to influence those that make decisions http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

To date Randy has failed to comment on the issues raised by me and many others. LH and *A are the most moderated boards on FT. Both are moderated by Patron. Spot the common demoninator?

That is unfair and untrue.

Briefly sampling posts active over the last 5 days, Patron has only closed or moved 2 threads out of 64, for an average 3.1% (I'm not counting this thread).

sample other forums:
MilesBuzz! 6/43 14.0%
Community 2/38 5.3%
United 5/149 3.3%
GLBT 1/22 4.5% (and I'm pretty lax).

Furthermore, I hope people will remember that although we're in a forum without a moderator, we're in the forum of our host, and it's the last place personal attacks are welcome. Everyone has to express your opinions without resorting to attacks.

Thanks

I feel very comfortable with Patron giving ample explanations of his motivs when moving a post, and in add, many times, Patron already, and at the same time, gives the original posters good first answers (and links to more information).

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif to Patrons's moderation-way of explaining why and his information policy in general.

... and thank you robb for the correct statistics http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

let go finally, gaza
repeating your pointless b*tching over and over again does not add automatically any substance to it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsdown.gif

Patron is extremely consistent in the way he moderates his forums, which makes him an excellent moderator in my book. As long as the rules are clear and are fairly enforced then his job is well done.
