Moderator for AC Forum
Being a relative newcomer to the AC Forum I noticed it is not very civil or polite (shocking from Canadians http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif ). That being said I have looked at the archives and noticed a while ago they decided to be moderator free, however I think that needs to be revisited. They are certainly not welcoming to all, and there are some obvious personal attacks that occur.
Moderation in all things can be good, just need to make sure it isn't overdone. Who makes the call on this? |
do you / would you (if accepted) volunteer whyyzman
so far, I believe, only volunteering moderators to specific foras have been appointed. |
I applied for this a long time ago and am still waiting patiently for a reply. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
But I guess the people of the AC forum do not want a moderator (at least they didn't at that time), so ... FewMiles.. ------------------ [ FlyerTalkers' Resources on the Web ] [ Unofficial Guide to AAdvantage ] [ Unofficial oneworld Info Desk ] |
I applied to Moderate the AC forum too.
Not knowing one thing about ice hockey will be a huge advantage as on 50% of the threads there I'll have no clue, leaving lots of spare time to focus on the flame wars and other distractions there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

Yes, I agree with Rudi. Please submit your true identity and experience details for doing this job with Randy for review. Perhaps we do need a "Wise Man" to oversee our transgressions over in the peaceable kingdom. Though what about that other newbie to our world: after_Empress? He seems to want to get to the bottom of the truth.

Really? Are you sure?

At this point, I can say I am more opened to the idea of a moderator. It's somewhat different to my original position but I think I have seen enough lately to warrant a change. Randy, to be honest, what's been going on there, you can see it here on this thread. And people are tired of it.
Ultimately, it will take someone who is knowledgeable about Air Canada and Aeroplan or at least someone who is willing to take time to understand. In other words, it doesn't have to be a Canadian. It must be someone who inspires respect among the people in the Air Canada forum [which should also automatically eliminates candidates who have been suspended or banned before], so someone who is well known like I can think of Rudi or BlondeBomber for example, not necessarily to put them on the spot. Another issue in the forum is the chemistry between the most frequent posters there. Let's call it the 'core'. To put it in a simplistic way, there are generally two divisions: 1) So called AC apologists 2) The AC bashers The moderator(s) must not be labelled in either category, otherwise, well...it's going to be a problem. Of course, the person must be willing to put time into this and I have a feeling taking on the job of a moderator in AC forum is not going to be an easy job. Considering all these criteria, you can see why even people who could be supportive of the idea found it hard to find a good candidate. Short of asking Randy to moderate it, I don't know. Do we have any suggestions on the candidates? |
...on a lighter note, I'd just like to point out that we actually have a pro-moderator thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I still am for an unmoderated forum at this time. I may change my mind later if....
|
Rudi I would not be interested in being a moderator at all. I travel for blocks at a time and can be without access to a computer for several days, depending on my location - that is not the characteristic of a good moderator.
Shareholder I am thoroughly amazed at your fascination with who I am. For some reason you think I am Mapleleaf, a username I found searching through the history of the forum. Based on his email address, his first name started with R, mine is Bill - they do not match. If flyertalk required validation I would be happy to show whomever my passport and birth certificate confirming my name, but alas that is not required, so it remains in my possession. I hold no interest in discovering the truth about who you are and request that you do the same with me. |
