How about a "Status Page" for when FT is down?

Randy, when FT is down and is expected to be for awhile (like yesterday), would it be possible to but a notice on either a standalone webpage whose address could be noted on FT for future reference, or maybe on the InsideFlyer page or ?? Thanks.

I agree. This is an excellent idea and would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Well, uh, if FT's server is down they won't be able to put up a notice as such. Duh.

Actually, depending on the nature of the problem, it could possibly be posted at www.webfyter.com !

Yet, IMHO, this is not much of a practical issue, since in the nearly three years now that I've been around FT, the downtime has truly been minimal, thankfully! Thanks and kudos to Randy & CO! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

but as chuck said if there was an address on ft that we all could note, SOMEONE at FT mmight be able to post to that other URl, or do it through viawest....

You're ignoring the fact that many FT'ers don't access the site via the frames version. Thusly, http://www.flyertalk.com/forumcgi/Ultimate.cgi

The alternate www.webflyer.com way "in" could very likely sometimes, but not always, IMHO, be used depending upon the nature of the problem! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

essxjay...

I took the original poster's idea to put the notice on a page other than an FT one (as it is on its own server).

Webflyer was available during the entire outage and a notice could have easily been placed there.

(btw, you gotta relax a bit)

I tried to get in through webflyer.com. No go. Never expected FT to be down so long. Where there is an event, I will note the location & time as soon as it appears in case of system crashes. I was planning to attend a FT dinner by LAX but I did not want to drive the 80 miles one way trying to figure out which Thai/Chinese restaurnt in the LAX area the event was held. (that was my limited recall). I am not complaining at all. I will have to print event postings periodically that I will be attending in the event of a future server crash. My fault for not doing so. Missed a very good FT event.

Bottom line: Kudos to FT for keeping this great site operating more than 99% of the time (my guess on up time) in spite of massive growth!

I believe cblaisd was referring to the possibility of utilizing a second webhosting account. Of course, it's much easier to say "duh" than to actually think about the suggested solution.

essxjay , I think you misunderstood me.
Dorian, Right. And, yes, Webflyer was available the whole time. That's why I suggested it
pynchonesque Yes, that was also what I had in mind if somehow FT downtime also had an impact on webflyer. I'd be happy to buy the domain name www.flyertalkstatus.com and host a page off of my own personal site (I'll bet there are others here who'd be happy to make the same offer to Randy).

Nice moderation.

"Nice moderation".

Well, far nicer than some of his (essxjay's) comments very recently.
