MILESLINK

Just received an HTML version of MILESLINK. Infinitely more readable than previous editions. It was such a refreshing change that I actually read the whole thing. Thanks.

Well, we'll take that as a compliment thought in all honesty, we aren't 100% proud of it. There's some additional things we need to correct with it but it is a start. Again, thanks for noticing.

I agree that the html is a big improvement. It makes it much easier to read.

Well, perhaps I'm in a very small minority but while I liked it just fine, I actually prefer the old version simply since it was okay with no problems and particularly since it takes up less storage space! Will there possibly be an option to opt out of the new HTML version and maintain the old as it were? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I thought it was quite attractive, but at 46K in size, was a bit "fat" compared to most HTML newsletters I get.

I sorted the old inbox and found that 46K is right in the middle of HTML letters, with the Economist at the top at "whopping" 115K.

But in this day and age of broadband, is 46K really a bg deal?

thanks skofarrell!

New format is more snazzy and I too read the whole thing through at once!

Didn't realize that maybe the different look of it all seized my information-overloaded brain better than old format.

Two comments:

1) There should be a way to get it in plain text.

2) The HTML edition wasn't readable at all to me, since it used some strange MIME encoding that the web-based email address I use for it could not understand at all.

I hope it will be a little more standard in future so that it works for everyone. (Of course, that would be achieved by offering it in plain text too.)

Oh, as for size, yes, 50k is way too big. I get about 50 emails a day and most web-based email systems are limited to 5MB. If all email was this bloated, my mailbox would fill in 2 days.

There will be a text option available, look for it next time. In fact, we have that option available if you sign up for the TalkMail email newsletter for FlyerTalk. The difference......when MilesLink was launched, it was before the day when HTML newsletters were really available. The last one was a bit longer than normal with news, so we'll see how that goes and now that we've done one, we'll have a chance to tweek it for size.

Thanks for the input.
