Leave them alone...

Sorry Randy but as you are gone let me misuse your area...

May I propose the following:

Let's leave the moderators alone for a while, in almost every thread after almost every post move someone seems to have to comment on the moderator.

I think it is time we cut them some slack, if we use up their time by having to have them constantly explain what and why they did something they will not have enough time to get down to business.

Maybe after a month or so we could start a REAL and adult discussion where everyone can comment and not argue http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Just my HO and 2 euro cents

I agree.

Lots of posts are misplaced and are not being moved IMHO, but so what they never were before.

There are so many places to post and many of those areas get no action, so in frustration, I have seen misposts. The posters have gone as far a admitting they we posting in the wrong area on purpose to get some response from a more active area.

After some time and reflection, I beleive some additional major changes and consolidations will be made. We'll see.

It seems that there is far more clutter on these forums than in the past and most of it is useless, thus my term clutter. This week, until today, it has taken between twenty and twenty five minutes to scroll, not read, just scroll, the forums, with between 275 and 340 postings. Is this snail speed the result of clutter? It is a time waster to work through and certainly discourages participation. One improvement would be to close out postings that drift into nonsense after a week or so on the board. One board that surely shows improvement in quality is the Community Board, moderated by essxjay; more of this kind of sanity and literacy would be welcome.

I may be wrong, but I thought FT activity in and of itself had nothing to do with speed, becuase the site was developed/operated off a shared ASP-like platform? So I have always "blamed" the site's technical problems in my mind on the underlying provider?

Now, if FT licenses the software and hosts the site itself, then that's another issue, and slow speed would be their fault.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't what you suggest just pure and simple censorship?

Without construing this as a comment onessxjay's performance, abilities, etc. as a moderator, the FT Community board has never been one where there has been any frequency of off-topic posts.

Actually there was a long discussion that began in March of 2000 about the Community Forum
Haven't figured out how to do the url thing with the new setup so will just type it in and hopefully it will work.

Well, OK, but that thread is a bit dated. I was referrring to the more recent activity in The Buzz, in particular.

Perhaps one more will begin on 3-04-2002
