FT in jeopardy?

Randy,

I'm worried about the precedent these threads are opening. IMHO, the whole FT idea is in jeopardy.

The List (see also Live from my soapbox: FT navel gazing)

US BAHT RUN 'Equivalent' identified... and To post or not to post - The US BAHT RUN 'Equivalent' - that is the question

What are your thoughts?

If those threads are putting FT in jeopardy then this whole place burned down last fall IMO.

Nothing to worry about...typical cycle for FT...we are in a trough now as things have been nice and calm AB (after bannings).

I kind of feel like Toxa1
I undertsnad the concerns but this board will be very boring and dead if we keep going down the road with these secret stuff thing. FT is on a egomanic trip right now: I know something but I will not tell.......... BÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I really feel the last bid of community spirit is fading!!!!!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
If we are not helping each other anymore in any way we can that is left are flames and newbie questions! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
How sad!

"FT in jeopardy?

Nah! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If we all knew the same things, thought the same ways and posted identically - then FT would be in trouble! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

The demise of FT has been routinely discussed as imminent even as it has grown and thrived!

I tend to agree with Dorian! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I believe it's better to start a discussion about whether to post something or not instead of just keeping it for oneself! This does not mean FT is in jeopardy because of that. And the "problem" is not about trusting other FT's, it is about lurkers who might axe the deals as soon as they post.

Certainly not in trouble. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

But, wow, think about all those monsterous post counts!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Kidding with doc aside, IMO we all have to individually decide what is and isn't appropriate to post (within Randy's guidelines). The "convince me to post this..." posts are (IMO) silly.

Dorian May 22, 2001 10:49 am

However, one thing that may actually put FT in jeopardy is all the multiple posts and missing posts!!!

Dorian, I agree, and also the lack of forward thinking growth management verses growth by chaos!

Dorian May 22, 2001 3:31 pm

JRF.... you took the words out of my mouth. I know Randy is working on just this problem now...and here is to hoping it is soon!

I am all for tip sharing openly.

I value the profit for all FlyerTalkers to learn and use the tips instantly (but may be for a shorter period only) higher than the exclusive privilege for a few for (may be only) a longer time.

For once, I agree with the gentleman from the land of Helvetia.

Personally I'd like to see formal Flyertalk Secret Societies develop.. we've always had cliques, now they're just getting more defined. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I can't just wait till the day we have several moderated bulletin boards on here (or elsewhere) by invitation only where you have to do the secret password and/or the secret handshake and they frisk you to make sure you're not an airline/hotel/etc employee.....

(I really like the RPG 'Paranoia' and we're definitely coming to that!)

Too late. It already exists. Moremiles is run by a group of flyertalkers who met here and screen who they allow on their site. They used Randy's resource to meet and then set up their site. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Gaucho100K May 24, 2001 3:31 pm

I agree with Rudi.

If FT is in jeopardy or not really depends on all those that come here. Sure, the topics and flames that are covered here exceed the realm of just FFlyer and Travel, but thats not what is going to make or break this (or any other) bboard.

ROADRUNNER May 26, 2001 1:19 pm

Cigarman,

Is that considered the PRESTIGIOUS SuperElite PALLADIUM level membership?

Are there ANY benefits for that level, we don't get here?

If the THE LIST and UNLIST strings stopped here, it would be the GOOD OL BOARD we started with a year ago!
