More strange doings

Randy, I understand your reasons for deleting the "Something About Carol" thread. I do not, however, agree with the premise of threads being deleted.

I wouldn't have brought it up, but I discovered a few weeks ago that at least a few threads in The Buzz, at least one related to the December ozstamps flame war, that appear to have been deleted.

One of the threads was titled "A Direct Question For QuietLion ...........":
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003818.html

The other two threads I noticed: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003823.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003825.html

Note, there is another "Direct Question For QuietLion" thread on FT Community, so maybe that had something to do with these missing threads. But they still show up on "search," which is how I found the QuietLion one.

Like I said, I don't know what these missing threads are about, and I know there are other ozstamps-related threads still around, so I'm not suggesting a conspiracy or anything in the least bit unseemly.

I fully support locking down threads when they become nasty, and I'm glad you've been taking some long-overdue action against those who soil FT.

But I vigorously object to the deletion of threads. If anything, they should remain as a record of what happened on FT.

I would have preferred you to have closed the Carol thread with an explanation why, and perhaps you'll consider putting it back on the server (assuming it's saved somewhere).

Just my thoughts. And if you or anyone else at FlyerTalk can comment on those three missing threads I listed, I'd appreciate it.

I have been too busy to notice this but totally agree. Keeping the 'history' and 'development' of Flyertalk is very important to it's future.

I find this most troubling...going back and deleting history.

Randy, I honestly believe you want to take appropriate steps to ensure the viability of FT...and to keep it 'clean'...but deleting???

Gosh, I'm starting to feel like Premex, Jon Toner, Catman...et al.

Motnot .. as I recall the Quiet Lion one was moved by Admin from one Forum to the other, so that probably explains the original one being deleted. Nearly all the most heated threads in the past if they were locked down are sti[l visible I agree with you, and are all there on search. Like you I have a formal newspaper/publishing background, with a freedom of the press culture, so I personally prefer less rather than more censorship. But neither of us owns FT.

Where does FT draw the line? The "Carol" one this week, with folks making fun of, inventing fake user IDs for, and openly doubting the report of an airline FF staffer known by many on FT, who died slowly of cancer is one that hardly needs to be accessed by anyone in future in my view. It earned no miles or points for anyone, and was just sick and VERY tasteless in the very extreme.

Seems like deleton of threads is something the owner of the board should get to do should they desire.

I guess I don't see the big deal of preserving the 'history' of the board.
