Record as a first day poster
Randy,
What is the record for the most post in a member's FIRST day ? 21 is pretty impressive, considering most of them are new topics. |
The only important thing should be the quality of the posts, not the quantity.
There is one on these boards who has set a record for the number of "Cut and paste posts", yet has added little to our knowledge of issues of importance to frequent flyers. |
Not to mentioned the abuse/overuse of emoticons! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif OK? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
|
Don't worry he's well on his way to becoming the leading poster -
CATMAN 5580 posts press release maestro 6104 posts RUDI 6467 posts |
Some look only to criticize.
Others look only to contribute. We all know who is who. Diversity makes FT and the world go 'round! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Meanwhile, here's a site you'll likely enjoy! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.crank.net/ [This message has been edited by doc (edited 06-22-2000).] |
Basically, WHO CARES!!! how much one posts on a first day or any day.
If someone makes one post that is chock full of valuable TRAVEL RELATED INFORMATION! -- rather than more than a dozen average posts -- then that's the reward for us. COMMANDER CATCOP say let's move on. There hsa to be something travel related that we can TALK about! [This message has been edited by Catman (edited 06-23-2000).] |
Catman purred the words right out of my mouth.
Dr.Pfp, I for one appreciate the aforementioned cut and paste "bandit" that you alude to because the person brings helpful and relevant information to the boards that I may not have otherwise been able to find on my own. In that sense, quantity is quality. |
dsimon,
You leave Dr. PfP out of this. He is always taking care of people and not averging 500 posts per month. When Dr. PfP speaks, people should listen. I know I do. Mrs. PfP |
All I can say is there were very few posts that I haven't learnt a thing or 2 off of. Nobody is holding a gun to my head to click on to or off any thread,I firmly believe in the FREEDOM to POST what ever and when ever as long as its on the proper thread. Anyone who doesn't care for some one doesn't have the right to deny me the ability to read anyn post!!! Dr (and NOT doc) get a LIFE!! and stop clicking onto the posts if it indicates a certain started it. But how dare you to deny me the right to if I wish to.DOC keeping posting and let ME decide which if any of your posts I wish to read.

well said craz - like that part about "as long as it is on the right thread"
but i hope that some day in the future we can have names of thread starters attached to "todays active topics" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by magic111 (edited 06-23-2000).] |
Craz: I am not denying you anything nor am I adovocating limiting Doc's FREEDOM to POST. He can post all he wants!
I am merely exercising my freedom to think he is an ******* for his CNN cut-and-paste antics, I-travel-everywhere-yet-I-can-post-10-times-a-day-every-day-of-the-week output, keep replying to his own threads so they continually show on top , calling names whe he's criticized attitude, and the I am never wrong ego. Diversity does keep the world go 'round, and like it or not, people like doc keeps it interesting. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Keep posting everyone. |

Mrs. PfP, leave Dr. PfP out of this?
My recollection is that I did not criticize anyone the way that the Dr PfP criticized Doc. I was merely offering my favorable opinion of Doc's posts. If you are not interested in news or media stories, than it is your privilege not to read them. What difference does it make to you how many posts Doc, or anyone else for that matter, has? For Dr. PfP to assert that Doc's posts "have added little to our knowledge of issues..." is just ridiculous. If you think that his posts are not adding to people's knowledge, than it is perfectly lucid that you are not reading his posts with any clarity. My response to Dr. PfP was not a fraction as inflammatory as what he wrote to Doc, or what you wrote to me for that matter; talk about posts that lack any form of substance... |
Doc:
I think a lot of us would appreciate your newslinks even more if you would offer some commentary or analysis on the articles you post. One could easily otherwise just run a news clipping search (try www.1stheadlines.com where there's a handle specifically dedicated to travel) outside of WebFlyer and come up with the same articles you do, in which case it would not be necessary for your *multitudinous* posts to reserve as many WebFlyer resources as they do. And by commentary or analysis, I do not mean merely parroting the first few sentences or paragraphs of the article! Quality, not quantity. [This message has been edited by FQTV (edited 06-24-2000).] |
Commander Catcop say "ok, that's enough! Points all made and well taken!" Let's move on.
And on another note, I think soemthing like this does not BELONG IN RANDY'S POST! He's here to answer frequent flyer related issues, not something so "WHO CARES HOW MUCH YOU POST!" as this!! Ok, THe catcop has spoken (Oh and sorry NJDAVID but remember you all: The catcop like arturo is always watching and waiting to pounce!) |

More overuse of emoticons! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
Catman:
You have no more right to limit discussion on this or any other topic than you have enfranchisement to post yourself. "Copcat" or not. After all, that's what most of this thread's discussion is about. Don't you get it? [This message has been edited by FQTV (edited 06-24-2000).] |

Mrs. PfP AND I would think that after 116 posts that you would ignore the good Dr. PfP. I know I do. Thank you, Mrs. PfP ------- Mmmmm, I would seem that your powers of rationalization are perhaps even greater than the ability of your "spouse" to roundly and incessantly criticise! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif NB- The "s" in criticise is in honor of the return of James, who was of course, very much missed! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Glad to se you are back, James! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

FQTV... Maybe I DON'T GET IT!!!
What's IT??? And spare me all the smiley things... it's crashing my computer. No, I want a third party to explain to me what IT is. At least some Flyertalker I will listen to. (You know who you are.) I am NOT trying to limit anyone's right to post. As arturo said, I'm just expressing an opinion. You don't have to agree, OK? And to quote one of my bestest friends Theresa (yes I have a LOT OF FRIENDS WHO LOVE COMMANDER CATCOP http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif "A man who has 10 friends in his life has nine more friends than many many other people out there." Think about that. and can we PLEEEZZEEE END THIS DISCUSSION! Thank you, on behalf of Commander catcop and myself. |
Catdude,
As one of those who you consider a friend, I think I can explain what FQTV means by getting it. No one has problem with you expressing your opinion. But your demands - often typed in capital letters - that certain threads stop and that we move on is not an opinion. It crosses a line that really ruffles feathers. (And I'll be the first to admit that I've crossed that line in the past more than I should have.) I know you revel in your role as Catcop and you have the badge to go with it. But many on this board don't recognize your authority, feeling that it's self-appointed rather than granted by Randy. Just my insight, FWIW. I post this publicly because you asked on a public board for an explanation. And I hope you take it for the explanation that it is and not a personal attack. Cheers all. |
Commander Catcop is just fun. Besides, he has no authority to censor anyone anyway. It's just a fun way to express an opinion.
Like Arturo. IMHO. |
That is the way I take it as well...fun....BUT when there is a statement to end a discussion...well essxjay said it quite well....
Dorian |
Essxjay - you are exactly right.
[This message has been edited by james (edited 06-29-2000).] |
Thank you essexjay! You expressed so eloquently when I wanted to but was afraid I wouldn't find the right words...
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
essxjay, well put.
As a fairly new member, please do not be offended but I was often taken aback by some of your posts, Catman, and I did not understand where they were coming from. They often appeared to stop a thread on the mere basis that you did not like the topic. I have no idea what your role is here, but assuming it were to be some sort of moderator ( is this the case?), shouldn't it be to intervene so strongly only if people are getting really nasty and abusive with each other? And the idea of a COP, cat or not, stopping you for any reason does rub people the wrong way... [This message has been edited by Droneklax (edited 06-30-2000).] |
Thanks essxjay et al. Having suffered an unjustified cat-attack, I am glad to hear that others do not believe this board needs heavy-handed policing.
|
I thought of CommanderCatcop as fun, as PremEx said (thank you for being one of the few to defend me while correcting me!)
I did not realize that I was censoring folks up here... and I didn't realized I offended so many people. SO I offer an apology. There are about a dozen things I could say as COmmander Catcop but I"m not for fear of ruffling everyone's feather up here. |
Catman, no more upper case spelling, presumably for emphasis, please. That is like someone yelling for emphasis. No need. Say what you want amd let the words provide the emphasis. Aside from that, it's all in fun and no one should take it too seriously.
Thanks, and keep having fun. Dr.PfP, imagine having so little to do in life that one can devote (is that the right word?) time to writing an average of 15 postings a day for a year, most being copies and thus totally non original. This is a way to use the most precious gift we have, time? One thinks not. Sorrow, pity, not irritation, come to mind when thinking of a poor soul, sitting in loneliness, wasting our most precious gift, sending messages that almost no one hears, much less needs, into a silent wind. Something like passing gas into the wind, the subject of a western ballad of perhaps forty years ago. Now you and Mrs. PfP pass over this thing and go have a foot stomping good Fourth of July! |

-ND, self appointed FT'er master spokesperson and renowned expert on gas, particularly of the "per rectum" sort! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif If you'll kindly permit me to politely offer a few suggestions prior to you, or anyone criticizes others: 1) Know your facts well. 2) Do you have a reputation as a troublemaker or whiner? If so, you`ll need to repudiate your reputation before folks are inclined to take any comments seriously. 3) Make any comments constructive rather than simply complaints. 4) Pick battles carefully, noting that the fewer things you criticize the more seriously a comment will be taken. 5) Are your concerns shared by others? Try bouncing your concerns off several other folks before you unload. No point triggering ire if an issue doesn`t warrant it. A colleague or friend may also have an idea on how to possibly solve or mitigate a problem without going the complaint route. 6) Consider whether the person you plan to talk to or about may have more or less clout than you do? Criticize differently to a peer or underling versus a supervisory type. 7) Do you have trouble staying cool? If you tend to "get emotional" when criticizing, perhaps do a few practice runs first. Try anticipating what the person you`ll be talking to will say and plan how you`ll respond. And don`t offer harsh direct criticism in the heat of the moment but rather give yourself time to "blow off steam." 8) Do you sense that people may perhaps not trust you? If people don`t trust you, they won`t seriously consider any of your comments. If that`s the case, you can try getting someone else to deliver your message or you can bring in a neutral third party to referee a conversation in which you plan to deliver your criticism(s). 9) Keep the criticism(s) always as private as is humanly possible. 10) Think twice, maybe three times, prior to going ahead and delivering the critical "blow(s)! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif You have a great 4th too, Nathan. So great to have you back form the dearly departed! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif [This message has been edited by doc (edited 06-30-2000).] |
