start bumping some users

Well Randy...high time has come it would seem.

In my opinion it is time to start banning users to preserve the board.

"MileageGOD69" is first from what I have seen...abusive posts with direct swearing...

I really believe it is time...regulars are starting to leave.

Wrecked 4 threads in 15 minutes or so.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/003046.html

And to re-iterate my earlier postings, and many others .. this clown has NO e-mail address visible on his profile or I could have taken to him by direct email and spared others.

He does however tell us this much about himself on his board profile:

Current Email: Not available.
Homepage: http://
Occupation: Porn Star
Location: New york
Interests: Sex in Foreign Lands w/ Foreign Dames
ICQ Number: 0000069

Let me guess .. the ICQ number is a fake too. What makes me think that? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, some posters can be annoying, but usually such folks will leave after they get their jollies for a few days. At least, this has been the case on other boards I've visited in the past.

Randy, Removed my e-mail address from my profile. Would not like "mileage69" for my enemy. Very uneasy feeling about him (her?).

MileageGOD69 Jul 12, 2000 2:23 pm

HI GUYS!

HERE'S JOHNNY!!!!!!!

Geez, Accusing me already you cowards? Hmmm?

If you tried to be civil & talk TO me instead of AT me, I would have let bygones be bygones.

I'll tell you this.......I will stop from this point on & NEVER post again if the 6 or so commentators will stop bantering/insluting with me. I will tit for tat to high heaven! (you may not use cuss words, but still have much of the same effect.)

SO FROM HERE ON OUT YOU STOP! I STOP! I WIN!

OK? Nuff said.

FT is for "FlyerTalk" NOT "Flametalk" ! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

How 'bout a bit of restraint from EVERYONE? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Dorian Jul 13, 2000 9:21 am

How about banning its username? IP logging is useless...ban it.

All of this will continue for weeks when you have something like that around.

Randy, Michael et al. BAN IT (MileageGOD69)

What a horse's rearend. The poor guy must have had the hell beat out of him repeatedly as a kid. One could well argue that he deserved it then.

Now, too.

Why not require a legit email address with a confirmation back in order to activate one's account? If there are changes to the profile involving the email change, disable the account until a confirmation is once again sent (with a link to activate the account).

I know this is not a popular view at all, but I have been saying for months that this board is full of rude people, and they are some of the most frequent posters. So while I may disagree with the means by which this person is communicating it, I can't disagree with the post he has in this thread.

I have come to accept the fact that common courtesy is not an arrow in everyone's quiver. This board seems to allow some people to either further their already inflated self image, or provide the means by which to inflate it. I know everyone here will disagree with me, but that is a difference in opinion...not proof I am wrong.

Whether it is curt responses to questions like "maybe if you told us if you were Premier we could help you" or outright attacks, this is not the friendly little place you seem to think it is.

One question... What kind of compensation do bumped users get? Vouchers? Drink Coupons?

dingo Jul 19, 2000 11:39 am

How about some free promotional material on antacids?...oh yeah.

Dorian Jul 19, 2000 2:29 pm

Randy - I agree that there is no purpose for that type of language and flaming in this board. There needs to be some supervision.

steve100 Jul 21, 2000 1:08 pm

Personally, any thread that I have ever read that has one bit of "Flaming" or personal attacks on them, I immediately cease to read and I NEVER put in any comments.

Being that people just can't seem to resist answering back - I suggest that we do either have an application process to become a poster on this board, or have some sort of checks and balances (ie: real email addresses, etc.). I wouldn't even be upset if we instituted some sort of small fee structure (like $10/year) to become a member.

FlyerTalk Staff - I think that all of the regulars on this board are asking for your help. I have seen repeated calls for your assistance over the months and to date nothing has been done. Personally, if this stuff continues, I could see many people (myself included) getting disgusted with this type of activity and leaving the board.

Please Randy (or whoever) - Step up to the plate and help us out here.

UBB does require a valid email address to register. However a user can opt to keep their address private.

Boomer Jul 22, 2000 12:24 am

How about a 7 day waiting period, after you register, before you're allowed to post?

This way Randy could call all the Hotel VP's and Airline Execs he knows and do a through background check.

Find out if the person has ever thrown away a ticket, or engaged in back to back ticketing.
None of us Old timer FTer's would ever do such things.

On the serious side:

That way someone could observe and learn the ropes before jumping in.
