I received the bulk mailing from Randy regarding the launch of WebFlyerNet.

I downloaded the software and started to install it...and quickly learned it is made only for people with U.S. addresses.

In the State/Province field there are no provinces listed...and the postal code allows only 5 numbers. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Really wanted to see what was developed...I guess I could lie about my address info!

I was one of the beta testers, but didn't get very far.

After weeks of trying to log-on unsuccessfully, one tech finally figured out that it would never work on my notebook, as I sometimes dock it at my office LAN, and because of this, the dial-up connection will always be ignored in favor of the IP information from that once a month dock (weather or not it's docked at the present time).

I can access Mindspring/Earthlink, AOL, wireless CDPD modem all while docked or stand alone, but webflyernet will not even allow me to register. The tech suggested I delete the office LAN information and try again. I suggested my employer might think this was a bad idea.

Thus ended my experiences with Webflyernet.

What about Linux? I know I'm not the only one here that would like a Linux version. Any plans to develop alternate platforms (Mac/Linux/BeOS/Amiga/PalmOS/WindowsCE/etc)?

Also, I couldn't get to the readme. I'd click to download it, and it would ask me for Name/email again, only to bring me back to the download page.

But, other than that, cool idea, Randy, and once all of the bugs are worked out, I'm sure it will be GREAT. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

I believe that the download screen mentions that the dialup is only available in the United States. I'd love to see a global dial up and we're working on that since we're trying to build a hybird off the AT&T WorldNet backbone, but it is a work in progress. I'm most apologetic that you were inconvenienced. BTW, on the first day we had over 1100 people sign up, so maybe there's something there.

Randy, speaking for myself, I was hardly inconvenienced! I elected to participate in the beta-testing, did so happily, and was glad to assist the techs in finding an actual problem...(as I recall, you were also very nice to the beta-testers). I did read that dial-up access was available in the U.S. with international access available soon.

BUT, aren't we all travellers? I am in the States every few weeks...but I have no U.S. address and am not a U.S. citizen.

Are you saying WebFlyerNet is only for Americans at this point?

It's kind of nice to have a free ISP that is not forcing me to adapt to something I'm not used to. In other words, I go to all those sites anyway, so this is great http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I would very dearly like to do this.

I've already downloaded all the software, have run the installer, but...

Why the need for all the personal information? Gender? Age? Occupation? etc.

Shall we submit our Social Security Number and mother's maiden name, as well???
