Overmoderation

Randy, WebFlyer folk:

I'm not one normally to complain here on FT--if anything, I'm usually the light-at-heart, catchphrase coining type--but I'm now of the opinion that something specific needs to be done to lighten the impact of moderation here on FT, particularly on the UA board.

In the last few months, I have opened two specific threads:

* Our previously discussed 'Save the Tulip' thread
* Today's UA GS qualification on CO Metal thread

The former, to me, was a complete and total mistake for the reasons we discussed and the approach the moderators took--ignoring my plea to keep them separated and narrowly focused on our campaign and news associated with it--was an unmitigated disaster for what we were trying to accomplish.

Today's incident involved taking my very narrow question and immediately merging into the mammoth GS thread, putting it at the end of Page 61 in a seven year long thread rather than giving it time to be answered and then merged later as an informational segment to the existing thread. If anything, this makes it even harder to track down in future searches, particularly when the answer is buried in a megathread.

I did everything I was supposed to... examined threads of common discussion, searched the board for the answer, etc. And yet my thread is now buried. That's no way to treat an long-time contributor.

Please note that I'm not fingering anyone in particular for this... it's nothing personal. I'm all for cleaning up the boards as long as it doesn't impact the flow of active discussion and impair the ability for unique questions to be asked of the rather talented group of flyers out there. If the moderators continue to prematurely and aggressively merge semi-affiliated questions/concerns together like this, particularly those of FT veterans, we're just going to leave and take our experiences elsewhere.

Oh, Randy... when did this stop being a group of friends and become yet another overmoderated forum? I fear for the future.

Thanks.

Timothy

Oh. And Ted says RAR! on your retirement.

First all all, you don't really think I'm retiring do you? Heck, I've got the best job in the world. I'll remain quite active in trying to help the frequent flyer so you haven't seen the last of me yet!

Now, as to your concern, I do agree (with some limits) and I disagree (with limits) as well.

Let me finish this in the a.m. as there's a real arctic blast outside right now with plenty of white stuff (snow) and all my employees left hours ago. Deal?
