New Community Lounge

Randy,

There were several of us who regularly visited and posts on http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...leage-run.html
It become our community lounge, Pat89339,Sweet Willie,lin821,karenkay,FriendlySkies,imm2b,miffSC, karung99,JY1024,AlaskaAir738,LIH Prem,beckoa,G_G,beaubo,El_Chiflero,N830MH,ralfkrip pner from Frankfurt!,psollitt from UK

we would never have met G_G from Tunis in Africa if not the thread is open. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...o-12-30-a.html
All of us coming from different groups and yet we become friends and bond together, since the thread is closed now we are like lost children and homeless.

Please give us a community lounge so all of us could hang around and stay there when the weather is cold outside.

Thank you Randy,

Karung99

Why wouldn't a thread in OMNI address your needs?

Mary2e Dec 11, 2010 9:35 am

I thought Omni was the community lounge - particularly now since controversial topics are in a separate forum.

Hi Randy,

First, I'd like to thank you for creating FlyerTalk : it has really changed my life by allowing me to travel more often and to fly to countries that I wouldn't have been able to visit.
It had allowed me to offer flights and travels to other people too which would have never been able to travel.
Especially one of my friends which was dying of lung cancer and has made his last travel with his wife in First Class because of FlyerTalk and the miles I was able to earn with.

I totally agree with Karung99 : I don't post in the same forum where they are posting so I'd never been able to meet my new friends without this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...leage-run.html) and the PWP.
I think it's the spirit of FlyerTalk to allow people from different horizons to meet.

So, please let us meet all together in our new home :)

Is there some reason you couldn't meet in OMNI? There is a distinct community there and you'd certainly be welcome.

As for all the OMNI comments. Yes, it is a distinct and most unwelcoming community there in my experience. It's a place I rarely visit, especially for that reason. It seems to have it's own group of regulars and others need not apply.

Don't confuse Omni/PR, which is a contest to see how quickly we can cut each other's throats, with the regular Omni.

I don't know where you got that idea. Many people who I otherwise would never had met, I did because of Omni. Some of those people I now consider personal friends.

It did become unwelcoming when extremists started hijacking many of the posts, and now they have their own playground.

Regular Omni is almost back to what it was. Not quite, but you'll be welcomed.

I am all for re-instating or starting a new Community lounge thread similar to what was experienced in the Come Fly to Me Thread. Yes, we have all made some new friends - renewed some older acquaintances - and have even had three (or maybe four) get-togethers (Do's) born from that thread.

After the contest, we all continued to post, and, as you said, we all shared a certain 'stream of consciousness' ranging from the serious to the ridiculous. Some posts evoking laughter - and some posts bringing forth shared experiences and reflections. It was, indeed, a great place to post.

I'm chiming in to say I'm all for a similar Community Lounge thread. :)

^ +1 A Community Lounge would be great! It was a lot of fun posting in the Come Fly With Me thread and a great chance to chat with FTers with whom we don't normally interact.

LIH Prem Dec 11, 2010 1:40 pm

It could be in OMNI, but there's really a community component to what happened in that thread. Either way we'll find a way to try to keep it alive, but the lounge idea is a good one, IMO.

I like the idea of a Community Lounge

Dovster Dec 11, 2010 1:47 pm

Why does Randy need to be involved in this? All it takes is one person to start the thread on Community and then for the forum moderators to decide whether or not they want to keep it open.
