Agoda -- Is it reliable or too good to be true?
#16
Have used agoda countless times. The one time I had to cancel a booking, they were efficient about the refund.
Now, you can supposedly get miles - depending on the rate, the amount varies greatly - when booking through them.

I've only used them once, but I got such a ridiculously fantastic deal. So the mistake rates can definitely be honored without any trouble, but as with anything that's a mistake like people said, screenshot.

I've used agoda numerous times through the years, I only had a problem once, when I was checking out of Marriott in Singapore, and the front desk wanted to charge me for my stay because Agoda hasn't paid for my stay yet (despite booking weeks in advance).
In the end they had to block the amount from my credit card and only released it after they received the payment from Agoda.

Note that if you book on Agoda's website, the prices don't include fees and taxes, but if you use their mobile app there's an option to show all-in prices.
Further, I've often found better deals on Agoda's app than they offer on their website, usually pre-pay no refund rates that save 5 maybe 10 percent off the website rate.

NEVER use AGODA. AGODA charged my credit card, but never paid the hotel. I had to pay a much higher rate for the room than the rate advertised by Agoda. I am working with my credit card company, but have little hope of ever seeing a refund. Dont be lurked by the low room rate. It is just a scam to steal your money.

sorry to hear about your experience Dplat.
i personally rely primarily on agoda for all my hotel bookings and haven't had any issues to date. i've been using them for bookings within SE asia (singapore, malaysia, cambodia, myanmar, thailand, indonesia) as well as japan, korea, and australia. not sure whether there's a difference in consistency when you go to other parts of asia, europe or the americas though.

Note: I have never had a hotel lose a reservation when booking through the chain (e.g. Marriott), directly through the hotel website (e.g. Wynn), through a personal travel agent or through a REPUTABLE 3rd party agency such as Orbitz, Expedia, etc. If Agoda is owned by priceline that is somewhat ironic as I made a separate reservation through priceline for the same property (different date) and the priceline reservation was the only one in the system.
Will NEVER USE AGODA AGAIN and will do my best to share this horrible experience through social media. As we like to say about WalMart, beware the HIGH COST of the LOW PRICE.

I've used Agoda mostly for my Asia trips and they have been great. Although I do notice that the it's can be more expensive than other booking sites so make sure to do your research of the area before you book.
