Hey Folks, I need to book a round trip tickets for my parents from MAA ( Chennai, India) - CLT ( Charlotte, US). The closest major airport having lesser fare is Washington DC IAD.
Option #1 -- I know that if I book the ticket with Chennai as source and Charlotte as destination, the luggage is checked in all the way through to the destination.
Option# 2 -- However, I am planning to book only through Washington DC and then book a domestic ticket from Washington to Charlotte separately as it comes out cheaper.
My question is in case of option # 2, Do my parents have to pay the extra fees for the oversized luggage when they board the domestic flight at Washington DC. Is there any way to avoid the luggage fees if the domestic airline is a partner of International carrier ( Qatar , Etihad etc). Thanks in advance friends.

How big is the price difference? Is it worth needing extra connecting time and running the risk of a worthless ticket if the first flight is delayed?
