RTW re-issue as a paper ticket

I have just had a DONE5 reissue arrive as a paper ticket. When I asked the TA why this is, I was given the answer that CX always re-issues RTWs as paper tickets as their systems cannot facilitate re-issues as e-tickets.

This sounds ridiculous - I am wondering about taking the paper ticket to CX reservation office and demand it be changed.

Has anybody come across this before

Strange sounding story - CX can certainly do e-tickets on reissues. But some factors trigger paper: open-dated segments (despite the fact that the systems do in fact allow them on e-tickets), and sometimes very complex tax calculations seem to have the same effect.

Don't worry about paper tickets - personally I much prefer to have some solid proof of entitlement to fly in my hand than relying on airlines' sometimes dodgy computer systems.

The only mandatory paper xONEx tickets I've seen in the past are those with open segments. I know nothing about this CX policy, as I buy all of my xONEx tickets from AA.

Be happy about the paper ticket, it can help to avoid a lot of hassle sometimes. And create other hassles of course....

If there is no more CX content for the rest of your itinerary, CX refuse to/are unable to reissue as an eticket. Normally they direct you to speak with an onward carrier and they then refuse to as they are not the original issuer.

So much for full e-ticket compatability, especially within an alliance.

First of all: be happy with a paper ticket indeed!

Second of all: if CX is the issuer of the original ticket the should be able to reissue as an e-ticket. They did for me when the ticket was originally issued by AA. There were still CX segments left though.

I once had an AA issued paper ticket reissued as an e-ticket by AA, and it was a multi-hour ordeal. (When it happened, I wrote about it on FT in another thread.) While they were perfectly willing to do it, they really didn't know how. I was left with the impression that xONEx tix are relatively rare at AA ticket counters, and precious few people (in this case, not even the tarriff desk) really know what to do with them when anything more than accepting them for flight is required.
