Furthermore Comair claim to be out of the alliance for some purposes (when it suits them) and deny alliance benefits.

I'd like to see Comair expand - regionally and intercontinentally - but they seem to have focused on expanding kulula.com rather than the BA side of things. Their last BA route expansion was to MRU - and that came at the expense of GRJ (personal grrr). Maybe Comair could start joining up some of the BA dots on the African map, such as JNB-NBO or JNB-LOS - on that last one though it'd be a 737 vs. the 340 of Arik or the 744 of SA unless they got some longhaul aircraft. |

Comair don't fly to NBO - you may be thinking of Regional Airlines, which as hauteboy mentioned, aren't a BA franchisee anymore - the franchise was taken away from them in 2005 due to service/standards issues. |

I'm interested - what have you experienced? I haven't flown them yet but am planning on doing a JNB-PLZ trip one day - what benefits did they deny? As comair rather than BA they also avoid EU compensation rules. |
Ah, just read your trip report from JNB-WDH on. Crazy and amazing! As for the lounge issue in JNB, was the BA Flounge open at that time? I wonder if you were directed to the J because the BA longhauls weren't until later, so the F wasn't being used yet? Only a guess.

F lounge was open and almost empty.
|
Shame - sometimes feel like carrying a copy of the lounge access card with you?
You have however inspired me to do a JNB-WDH return tag during a JNB turnaround I have coming up - that or a JNB-CPT-DUR-JNB triangle. |
The lounge agents knew the OW rules but claimed Comair is not a OW airline thus does not apply to their flights.
|
Strange - I have never had any problem getting access to the Comair lounges with my AA card even when flying coach.

Comments from the Jetstar Asia (Singapore) CEO (49% QF owned).
Jetstar Asia is adding 46% capacity out of Singapore in the next 12 months “The next thing we are working on is to provide interlining for Oneworld members. Qantas is a member of Oneworld and we would like to be the connecting point for Oneworld members,’’ Chong said, adding that “we expect to grow passengers with our interlining arrangements.” |

Would be nice if in time if Jetstar / Jetstar Asia / etc were to come into OW (like Dragonair did via CX for e.g.), but as its a low-cost carrier I doubt very much that is going to happen or that QF has any interest in it happening. |

ISTR reports earlier this (in light of the discontinuance of "QF" metal within NZ) that Qantas were negotiating to get their codeshares on JQ metal as options for xONEx's.

It is a great pity that JQ is not part of OneWorld. QF had been giving too many route to them! JQ is not that cheaper than any other airlines when you add everything together. I would welcome JQ to OW as long as you can earn miles on the discounted Y class and OW benefits applies. However, in Long Haul I will only choose QF rather than JQ.

Needless to say, I can just imagine some OW pax reactions when they end up on a JQ flight, let alone not earn any miles.

This is completely irrelevant, I'm sure, but 9W (Jet Airways) at LHR is moving from T3 to T4--away from OneWorld and towards Skyteam, given the shapes of overall LHR moves.

I'd love to see an African airline join. ET would be ideal but since it looks like its going to Star we may be stuck with waiting for Arik to expand or to poach ET. And an Indian airline like Jet would be a great addition.
But thinking a little closer to home what do folks think about Oneworld going after Porter (PD)? Its a top quality airline and is growing. Or does the cozying up between WestJet and AA/BA/CX nix any thought of Porter? Porter has a great hub at YTZ and already fly to Boston, Chicago and NYC. Granted they would likely have to move from MDW to ORD. And it would be tough for them to move into LGA but AA has 12 nonstops weekdays LGA-YYZ and three JFK-YYZ. So in theory AA and PD could work out a deal. With AC threatening to pry its way into YTZ PD might welcome an alliance with AA/OW. |
