RTW points/miles? How much have you made?

I'd like to do an RTW trip, preferably next year. Started reading up on this and did a few dummy bookings.

But I don't see it mentioned anywhere if these trips generate miles and points (for example, to retain my BA Gold Executive Club membership). It seems like a single trip could easily get me 800 points (I live in Europe, not the UK) if I fly in First/Business (depending on the flight), but even glossing over the OneWorld rules, I don't see this mentioned.

The search function also seems to be broken, no matter what words I type, it's not showing up now :(

So... I assume you DO earn miles/points on RTW trips, and if so, how many have you earned (just looking at a few examples to get me give me a better idea).

Thank you

Ah, seems I had to go back nearly ten pages, but just saw that some have earned 70-80k miles for the trip, and some 2000 points.

Yes, you earn on xONEx fares. If you post your proposed itinerary and goals, you'll find that FTers are more than happy (enthusiastic, I'd say) to help you with strategies and constructive suggestions to maximize whatever it is that you want to maximize (i.e.,miles, points, specific stops, etc.).

If points are your aim , 1 RTW DONE3 can re-qualify you for BA Gold. You can have 6 segments in the USA. You are limited to 1 trans-con from certain cities. There are always several 1 stop flights over 2000 miles that are not subject to these rules. You just have to find them . For example you could fly MIA-JAC-MIA-JAC-MIA-JAC-MIA this summer as there is 1 stop service both ways and are fairly nice to visit.

And you'd fly in or out of MIA direct to/from Asia how?

Actually, this will be difficult as the amount of segments have now been reduced to 16. But 60k BIS miles are still possible.

As christep pointed out, the MIA-JAC back and forward thing doesn't work as you need to go to /come from Asia/Oceania from MIA directly and those flights don't exist. But you can do something like MIA-JAC-MIA-RNO-MIA-LAX-DFW-NRT or go via HNL or.....

MIA-JAC-MIA-RNO-MIA-LAX-DFW-JFK-HKG would give more mileage.

Yes it would give more miles if it would be a legal routing. But you have 7 NA segments.

And by no means was by suggestion mileage optimized. There will be better routes when you include the Caribbean and ANC.

1740 Tier Points and retained BAEC Gold on DONE4

I recently completed a DONE4 and it was primarily to retain my BAEC Gold.

My route was:

ICN-HKG-PER-SYD-xLAX-xYYZ-DFW-ANC-DFW-LAX-LHR-DXB-LHR-HKG-CGK-HGK-ICN

I got my 4 BA sectors, 1,740 TP's and around 75,000 BA miles for the sale cheapo ex-ICN fares before the screwed with the pricing and force me to fly out of Indonesia (which is okay because there are direct, discount airline flights from SYD-DPS).

Well worth it and considering i didn't spend a night in a hotel (except for planned stopovers), it was relatively painless and over with in 8 days.

I would highly recommend it

You would recommend spending 3800 euro's to spend 8 days in a plane to retain a card that gives you access to lounges?

I recommend xONEx's (especially if the first x is either an A or a D) for a long holiday or even multiple holidays (with some clever breaks here and there) but I have never understood mileage runs like this.

That being said: I went from blue to gold in one AONE6. I took 6 months and enjoyed the ride. Who needs a gold card when holding a First ticket?

Well, it's not quite that simple. This was effectively a roadshow for fundraising on a new venture that i'm launching, so I had meetings on three continents (Los Angeles, London, Dubai) and squeezed in some time to meet with friends and family near airports around the world.

Also, I made a mistake in that it was probably more like 11 days, but the lengthy stopover in SYD where I'm based made me forget that I actually started in ICN (I was in HKG on business so it wasn't too much of a repositioning issue for me)

I agree though that no Gold card is needed when travelling on the AONE product :)
