OW/LAN/AAdvantage

I traveled one r/t MIA-UIO-MIA back in 2007 and accumulated almost 21,000 KM on a lan pass account(15,000 was a bonus).

It doesnt look like I will be doing any travel via Lan before the mileage expires May 2009.

I do have an AAdvantage account and I am a resident of the United States. My lan accumulation may work better for me if I can transfer to my AAdvantage account.

Is this possible at all?

Thanks

You'll loose most of the miles / km in the transfer process and it'll be pricey, probably $250. For the same money you could do a mile run and earn EQM on AA.

Find a way to earn a km or to on LAN, like with purchasing an itunes song or something. On top of all that, LAN awards are easier to get than AA, they take far fewer miles/km.

You could also do something else like add your LANpass number to an upcoming AA flight or flights (or any OW LAN partner) and periodically work to top off the account. Of course this would assume you can "afford" to do so (ie you're not right at the cusp of a status level). And if you're AA elite you'd probably want to do it on an AE flight or something where upgrade status doesn't matter anyways.

Just a thought, there are advantages and disadvantages (bonus miles too, etc...) but you could look at it the other way and figure out how to divert a few miles to LAN for travel you're already doing. You might find them handy one day for an intra-SA award or upgrading a paid flight to/from SA. You can upgrade Brazil to USA for 40k KM for example, something you can't do with AA miles on LAN metal. And I believe LAN gives better awards to their own members, so if you're coveting one of the really tough awards like SYD/AKL-SCL one day that's another option.
