Codeshares to JNB/CPT

The AA RTW desk says that they are no longer allowed to book AA codeshare numbers on BA 54-59 (between LHR and JNB/CPT), even with AA TATL connections, but the online booking engine still permits you to book them. Obviously, this makes a big difference for mileage earning, -- these are long hauls, and elite bonuses can add up quickly. Interesting.

No longer allowed to or just no AA space being released by BA? I would call back and see why the language allowing use of codeshares in the rules is not being observed.

The space seems to be available, both on the OW online booking engine and EF. The RTW desk agents were pretty specific, -- I was told that although the space shows as available, they are "not allowed" to sell it as a codeshare. I can't call again regarding this rezzy for other, unrelated, reasons, PM for details if you like.

I'm too lazy to go looking for you, but this exact issue was posted either here in the OW forum or in the AA forum sometime in the past month. Perhaps there is some more helpful info in that thread if you can find it with search.

Thanks, actually, I participated in that discussion, too. I started this thread because I couldn't find the old one and was surprised the other day to see the codeshares available in the online booking tool. This is a non-trivial issue for me because if I can use the AA codeshare, I get an extra 6,000 miles per flight.

What is the point of having a codeshare if you can not book it?

+1, of course.

I actually booked this flight as codeshare 2 days ago, although I did make the booking online, I paid for it over the phone. And yes, there was a big difference to mile earning and qpoints.

Q-points shouldn't matter unless you're on a LONE* in coach (and who would do that???). In A/D it'll be 1.5x EQPs for either the BA or AA flight number. The issue is the elite bonus (25%/100%) redeemable miles which one no longer earns on any BA flights. :td:

umm. yes.. I was probably posting in the wrong forum. I am booked on an AA ticket MIA-LHR-CPT-LHR-MIA, not a *ONE* , in dreaded Y, using EVIPS to J on the MIA-LHR and LHR-MIA segments. And you are right, I am not looking forward to the BA segments.
