New *O Circle Atlantic Explorer product
In conjunction with the 10% sale, *O is deploying a new product called Circle Atlantic Explorer. Looks like it operates similarly to other circle trip products, and many of the rules are in line with the RTW products. Summary of important fare rules, taken from my GDS:
Current base fares ex-LON (in pounds) as follows:
LCIRAT17 1,214
LCIRAT21 1,394
LCIRAT25 1,718
DCIRAT17 3,599
DCIRAT21 4,139
DCIRAT25 4,724
ACIRAT17 6,119
ACIRAT21 7,019
ACIRAT25 7,919
Note that these ex-LON fares cost the same as RTW fares LONE3/4/5, DONE3/4/5, and AONE3/4/5. (Departing NYC, xCIRATx's are about 10% cheaper than corresponding xONEx's.)
Overall I'm not incredibly excited about this new product; you can see a lot more of the world on a RTW for the same base fare, and certainly get more miles as well. The restriction on flying via cities which publish this fare is also fairly annoying.
- Mileage based: 17,000, 21,000, or 25,000 miles
- Travel on AA/AY/BA/CX/IB/JL/LA/LP/MA/RJ/XL/4M; codeshares on metal of carriers not on this list appear to be not allowed
- Required crossings are TATL North America-Europe/Middle East, western North American-South America, and TATL South America-Europe/Middle East
- 3-16 segments allowed
- Travel only via cities where Circle Atlantic has published fares (so this currently excludes, for example, BDA, PTY, and most of the Carribean)
- Travel via Carribean/BDA and Central America/PTY not allowed
- Same city pairs can't be flown more than once in the same direction
- Surface sectors allowed within continents; included in the mileage calculation
- Generally books into A/D/L for F/J/Y classes
- Min stay 7 days, no max stay (probably subject to ticket validity of one year from date of first flight)
- 2 stopover min. 4/5/6 stopover max depending on mileage. Only one stopover per city, and no stopovers in country of origin; one stopover required in each continent (aside from continent of origination)
- Unlimited transfers, but no more than 2 per city
- Tickets must be issued on/before 4/12/09--probably means the current fare is the 10% off fare
- Country of payment minimum check rules same as for RTW
- Free date/carrier changes; $125 for routing changes or no-shows
- Cancellation 10% of the fare for Y, 5% for F/J

I've seen on FT (and definitely with the KVS tool before I got Sabre) use of *A, *O and *S (SkyTeam).
Come to think of it, Sabre uses these codes as well:

It's a shame that there is not yet a way of getting from Africa to the Americas except going via Europe. This hole in the *O network could be filled if AA or LA start flights to JNB - or BA Comair implements its expansion plans and finally starts flying longhaul.
That would make a Circle Atlantic a lot more interesting. Anyone heard any recent rumours on AA/LA considering JNB?
