Quick RTW region questions

Is Singapore considered Asia or SWP for purposes of RTW tickets?
Is Moscow Eurpoe or Asia for RTW?
Is there a list / detailed map of where the regions break?

Thanks!

Hi mkgref!

Singapore is Asia, Moscow is Europe.

I don't know where you can find a map detailing the continents for the OW Explorer, but I can help you with the following list:

- Europe: all European countries (Russia included) + North African countries (Egypt, Morocco, etc. see below) and the Middle East (whole Arabian Peninsula, including UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc. + Iran)
- Asia: classical definition excluding Middle East (i.e. Asia = everything east of and including the Indian Subcontinent + former Soviet Republics in Asian territory like Kazakhstan)
- SWP: Oz + NZ + Pacific Islands
- North America: all countries from Canada to Panama including Caribbean
- South America: everything south of and including Colombia
- Africa: the whole African continent excluding Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Sudan (which belong to Europe/Middle East) - Libya should be counted as Africa IIRC

I hope I listed all continents correctly.

Below the continents as defined in the xONEx sticky:

North America = United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean area, Central America and Panama
South America = all of South America other than Panama
Europe = all of Europe, including Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and all of the Middle East including Egypt and Sudan
Africa = all of Africa other than Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia
Asia = all of Asia excluding everything in the South West Pacific
South West Pacific = all of the South West Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand

Much appreciated... was especially wondering about Singapore because, technically, it's an island

Please see the "stickey' at the top of the forum for a link to a map and further description/definition of the regions:

How is eastern Russia defined? For *A RTW everything east of the Urals is Asia, except for Ekaterinburg which is defined as part of Europe.

IIRC there's no OW service to any Russian destinations east of SVX, so I don't know that it's a question causing any concern to the nabobs of Vancouver.

Was wondering as well. I noticed that the only Russian destination east of the Urals is Ekaterinburg, which counts as Europe (per OW map on oneworld.com). If somebody launched services to Irkutsk or Vladivostok for example, then somebody in Vancouver would need to take care of that (probably defining everything east of Ekaterinburg as Asia).

Thanks folks. My line of thinking was running along the same lines - I assumed Moscow was part of Europe but it seemed a stretch to include Ekaterinburg. I guess it makes sense to include it simply because it's a destination no one's going to be using regularly on a RTW and there's no flights further east from there, and easier than splitting off a single city in Russia.

Despite the sticky (I did check there and searched the forum before asking!) I'm still unable to find anything that actually defines where Asia ends and SWP begins... at this point I'd guess the break is that all islands except Singapore are SPW?

All the links in the sticky serfty referenced, that I can find at least, are either dead or don't show the breakout I was hoping to find (eg. AA.com has "Asia" and "OZ + NZ" but no "SWP"). AA.com map also seems to include Indonesia and the Solomon Islands as "Asia" which doesn't seem right. Maybe I'm missing something simple?

Maybe it isn't such a "quick" question after all

Yes, that thread needs updating, I have posted as such on it.

Actually it should be a quick question; here's a link to the rules:
Code:

Continents are defined as:

    Europe-Middle East
(including Ekaterinburg, Algeria , Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan) /
    Africa /
    Asia /
    South West Pacific /
North America (including Caribbean, Central America and Panama) /
    South America.

I have an old brochure which I got from BA in ZRH which includes a map of the different continents for xONEx tickets. If nothing has changed in the meantime continent-wise (since 2005):

Southwest Pacific is: Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands*, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, French Polinesia.

Asia is: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Laos*, Cambodia, Myanmar*, PR China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea*, Mongolia*, Bhutan*, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan*, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan*, Turkmenistan*, Tajikistan*, Russia east of the Urals*.

* = there should be no OW service to this country (nevertheless it is included in the continent per OW definition)

To add the last continent which may create confusion:

Europe/Middle East is: geographic definition of Europe + Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan*, Russia west of the Urals, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Yemen, Iraq.

Iceland is not considered on the map and has currently no OW service (IIRC, it is considered as Europe - BA had seasonal flights to/from KEF).

Here's a link to a map with the "Continents" highlighted:
