When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

No way, DL is a shareholder of MU, and MU is a shareholder of AF/KL. They are closely knit now. If anything, it would be CZ of which AA is a shareholder. JL partners with a bunch of SkyTeam carriers, and that has always been the case.

Thank you, ernestnywang.

I didn't know that.
Why JL choose MU ? JL could choose CZ and buy some (maybe very small) part of CZ to make them move to OW.
Other OW also want codeshare flights in mainland China.

And QF already does with China Eastern MU, and has so for some time. https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequen...a-eastern.html
QF codeashares with AF (to France), but that does not mean AF will join OW or QF will join Skyteam.

Is not uncommon for airlines to have codeshare or JV's with non alliance airlines or airlines in another alliance.

JL code-shares with both MU and CZ, but I guess more with MU because of proximity. This was merely an upgrade of the existing agreement between JL and MU. We may see something similar coming between JL and CZ, too.

Wow. JL code-shared both CZ and MU.
This may be a not right topic for this forum but how is the relation between CZ and MU?
They are both a member of Skyteam and in mainland China. For me, just a flyer, they seem competing rather than the partner of the same alliance.
I know CAN is close to HKG but the market is enough big.

Last year, it was a strong rumor going on: Will China Southern leave Skyteam and join OneWorld?.
In the end, nothing happened. Cathay Pacific Won't Leave Oneworld And China Southern Cannot Join OneWorld.
@LandMiler: JAL had a chance to join SkyTeam 9 years ago, after Delta invested in bankrupt JAL. In the end, JAL stayed in Oneworld.

I hope that Royal Air Maroc and perhaps also Air Namibia and/or Rwandair would join as soon as possible. Oneworld is strangly absent from the African market!

Qatar Airways still holds a stake in Cathay. I don't see CX leave unless the major shareholder Swire group decides to quit.

QR itself wants to quit, although I hope QR is not being serious.

Alaska Airlines Hints It May Finally Join the Oneworld Alliance

Alaska Airlines is considering joining the Oneworld marketing alliance dominated by American Airlines, British Airways, and Qantas, though likely not as a full-fledged member, its chief commercial officer told investment analysts on Tuesday.

Oneworld has scheduled a press conference Dec. 5 in New York to announce its “first full member airline recruit for six years,” but as Harrison did not mention a full membership, Alaska may not be the subject of the event.

This one is interesting and there's plenty of possible options.

I'd say AS, AT, CZ, EI, IG are all front runners. Also possibility of FJ going to full partner.
