FAQ

When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

Which isn't a surprise given CZ only left Skyteam in early 2020, having commenced the leaving process in mid-2018.

CZ was probably going to join anyway, but CX being a shell of its former self probably bolsters the case for them to join. Will still be odd having alliance partner hubs so close to each other but they really do serve quite different markets.

Indeed, if it happens wouldn't be surprised to see CZ try and buy Air China's stake in CX (CA and CX have cross shareholdings in each other).

And possibly even try to squeeze out the British (Swire with 42%). Qatar also has 10% in CX from a few years ago

Has there been any more news around WB (Rwandair) possibly joining? I know QR was talking about it not too long ago and they'd be a great addition for their Africa network.

it’s basically a question of when not if at this point. Both QR and WB have indicated they want it to happen and with QR investing so much it just makes sense.

MIAT (Mongolian Airlines) CEO seems to have gone on CNN (video in this article) and said that they are “actively” working to join oneworld connect. Happy to see more airlines (possibly) joining…

Here is a link to a list of OM (MIAT) cities served, including former destinations marked as such.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the principle that "the more, the merrier," but I fail to see how either of the parties will benefit. MIAT doesn't serve a single destination not already covered by multiple OW members, as indicated by the current flight map. This is unlike FJ, which flies to several island nations. On the other hand, MIAT already codeshares with CX and JL. News article suggests that UBN could be a gateway to Russia, but the challenge here is that MIAT doesn't fly anywhere in Russia, unlike QR, RJ, and AT.

I may be wrong about this, but I believe the only CX and JL flights to Ulaanbaatar are currently the MIAT codeshares.

I don’t believe any OW airline currently serves UBN on its own metal.

No oneworld airlines listed (wikipedia is not always up to date)
With 7 aircraft in the fleet would not/could not add much to OW

If people aren't aware, they're planning on flying to the US relatively soon. If they get into OW, I'd guess go to LAX, if not, then maybe SFO.

Wonder if that'll be on the same 767 that they use to Germany? The business class looks pretty craptastic, but guess it never hurts to have some additional award capacity in the system.
