FAQ

When is [insert airline here] joining oneworld???
Which airlines are lined up to join?
See list below and
https://www.oneworld.com/member-airlines/overview
Another useful page for official announcements is: https://www.oneworld.com/news-information/oneworldnews

Current members elect (officially announced and currently aligning processes):

WY - Oman Air
Announced 20JUN22, with a target of '2024' - no indication yet when in 2024 this may be. https://www.oneworld.com/news/2022-0...-join-oneworld

Expected members:

FJ - Fiji Airways
Currently the only oneworld Connect member, FJ stated 28FEB24 that they would like to seek full membership and would apply in Q3 2024.Full membership may still take until 2025/2026. #1489 and https://onemileatatime.com/news/fiji-airways-oneworld/

EI - Aer Lingus
EI's new owners, IAG (owners of existing members BA+IB), stated before acquisition that they fully intended EI to rejoin, and have restated the intention since completing the purchase. EI has not yet been publically 'invited' by oneworld but should join eventually. When? When it's announced... When will EI become a full member of Oneworld?

Well OZ was close to oneworld at one point, in the early 2000s. I know OZ used to be a CX Asia Miles partner and maybe an AAdvantage partner, too. This all ended when OZ was determined to join *A.

With BA terminating their service to KBP and LED in October, QR and S7 remain the only *O airlines with flights to countries in the former USSR other than Russia.
It appears S7 was brought into the alliances to close this gap, but with Russia's relations with the rest of the world going south, shouldn't *O start actively recruiting a new member to serve these markets? I think Air Astana, airBaltic, and Ukraine International are ideal candidates for filling the void. BT and KC are being actively courted by *A, and PS seems to be SkyTeam's next target. I am surprised *O passively watches their competitors building strongholds in the Eastern European and ex-USSR markets.

You missed AY's seasonal HEL-TSE. AY also has lots of flights to the three Baltic states.

They do, but connecting to S7 is virtually impossible (will require a super expensive Russian visa and transfer between SVO an DME, which is 3-4 hours). Only way to get to KBP with OW from October is to go via Doha. Compare that to a very extensive *S (thanks to SU, Tarom, and KLM) or *A (LOT, Austrian, and TK) networks.

Since all OW airlines serve the S7 hub DME, with the exception of AY, connections would require neither a visa nor a change of airport.

Cathay, Qantas, Malaysia, SriLankan and LATAM don't serve DME either.

Huge doubt about that. SU is owned by Russian government so they have a right to reject PS's application to SkyTeam.

What about Air Serbia?

of course, thank you for your pedantry. I was referencing those OW airlines that fly to Moscow, those that don’t are not relevant to this discussion.

Once BA cancels the LHR-KBP route, there will only be one Oneworld route to KBP: DOH-KBP on QR. Note that S7 doesn't fly to KBP.

Recent oneworld press release: https://www.oneworld.com/news/onewor...ion-gains-pace

  • Discussions are at an advanced stage with a number of airlines from several global regions interested in signing as oneworld connect partners, less than six months after Fiji Airways became the debut airline to operate via this new membership platform.
  • Implementation advances of Royal Air Maroc as oneworld’s first full member recruit for six years and its first from Africa, targeting a joining date in the first half of 2020.
More connect partners - soon?

AT joining by June 2020? The previous announcement had been mid-2020, which may also still be true, but there’s room for an earlier join date. Could have said Q2 more specifically if they wanted to. Or maybe they found a different way of saying the same thing...

How soon? Perhaps June 2020?

I wonder whether JQ would have a chance to enter OneWorld as a Connect member?

Since the relationship change between CX & QF, getting higher chance to let jetstar group to become oneWorld connect.

Since JQ/3K don't really issue air tickets in the traditional sense, I suspect there would be a lot of behind the scenes effort to do that. And given QFF members can get SC and points with the "proper" bundle add-ons I suspect QF would have little incentive to go down that route.

Just reading an article on worldairlinenews.com that says from 4th June 2020 AA will start a 3 x weekly service from PHL - CMN, AA's first destination in Africa. However, the article also says the following: "Vasu Raja, American's Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning "We look forward to working with Royal Air Maroc when they join oneworld in January""
Does this mean RAM will be flying as oneworld by January? Or a mistake?
