AA Reservation Fees (UK)
 

Last week I had a DONE4 issued by AA in UK and discovered they now charge a 15GBP Phone reservation fee.

Is this a new fee the implement as I recall even when I booked point to point AA reservation with AA UK they didn't charge anything.

I know in the overall scheme of things this is a small amount (consider the tax savings), but just want to check whether is it an error or not?

I believe they have been charging this fee for several years at least ...

These charges as been around for a while and apply to any type of booking made on the phone by AA or at the Heathrow ticket desk.

AA charges USD 20 fee for phone bookings (fee waived for EXPs). This is systemwide and not specific to OWE. It was done to encourage web site bookings (I suppose now that is possible for OWE too, at least on http://www.qantas.com.au ). AA doesn't waive the fee merely because it is impossible to book on their web site.

this is the first time i got charged by aa as a seperate fee. I previously used AA NRT for DONE4 tix as well as simple LHR-JFK bookings. These are all made and issued over the phone and I never got charged (well maybe they put it under the tax?). This is the first time where I got a seperate email confirming this charge.

FWIW, the process I use for ex Oz xONEx's booked through AA does not incur an additional fee either. [Book via AA ATW desk on USA, Pay & ticket through AA desk in Oz]

(Nor does booking a domestic US routing online and calling AA in Oz to pay.)

Is there an exception to this waiver for redemptions? Because I was charged USD20 for an AAdvantage redemption the other day - have I been mistakenly charged? The redemption was made for my partner who has zero AA status if that makes any difference.

It is an informal benefit so the rules are whatever AA makes it that day. It has always been waived for me as an EXP. Worth a call for you to ask for the waiver, it could be that the agent did not notice your EXP status (the EXP desk agents also handle non-EXP calls at times), or it could be that the EXP has to be traveling on at least one sector of the same itin (the latter is more likely).
