Estimate of AONE5 taxes?
Hi all,
I'm planning an AONE5 starting in JNB, with following flights (sketch). 1: JNB-HKG (CX 346) 2-5: 4 intra-asia flights 6: SIN-SYD or SIN-MEL or BKK-SYD (QF 744) 7-9: 3 intra-swp flights 10: AKL-SCL (LA 343) 11: scl-ipc 12: ipc-scl 13: scl-lim 14: lim-eze or lim-gru 15: EZE-LHR or GRU-LHR (BA 744) 16: LHR-JNB (BA 744) Obviously I want to fly all flights between continents (in upper case) in F. Can anyone give me an estimate on the taxes assuming I will buy this with an agent in South Africa? A very rough estimate would be fine :) Otherwise what do you think about such routing? I want to try different F long haul products, and intra continents it would also be nice to fly F (except south america, where there are practicaly none). For SWP I want to visit AKL and SYD, which will probably be the entrance and exit points from SWP, so I don't have a lot of other ideas to visit. For Asia apart from entrance to HKG and exit from SIN or BKK I want to go to NRT, which is perfectly doable in F. And of course, the 16th flight LHR-JNB would be like 11 months in advance to prepare for next such trip... Thanks for your opinions! J. |
Look for a way to purchase these tickets using AA; you should save plenty.
There are a few regular posters here who have obtained tickets from an AA agent in CPT (IIRC). |
I have been looking at AA codeshares.
Is this enough to have AA ticket this for me? From the long-haul only one: LHR-JNB (5645 mi) In Asia I could use something like BKK-NRT or SIN-NRT (~3000 mi per piece) In SWP I will fly only SYD-AKL (1343 mi) In S.Am I will fly twice SCL-IPC (2x2334 mi) Therefore I can book 4 flights on AA codeshare totaling 11656 miles And possibly one or two asian flights at 3000 miles each. Is this is requirement to get AA ticket me? I won't fly AA metal, so that must be enough ;) EDIT: all flights except for SYD-AKL have 'connection required' written there. Does that mean I cannot fly on AA codeshare if I'm not connecting? In my case it plainly means I cannot use them? That means I have only 1343 miles left for AA codeshare |
If AA is going to be concerned about flying AA, codeshares will likely not suffice, -- they're going to want AA metal. But they also may not care. You'll have to try it and see. Don't ask them if they require AA segments, just call and book. If they don't like your itinerary, don't worry, they'll tell you.
With regard to ticketing procedures, if you're using AA RTW desk and purchasing in South Africa, make your rezzy with the AA RTW desk on the phone. Once your flights are nailed down/reserved, they're going to have to submit it to Dublin for faring. Tell them that you will be purchasing the ticket in South Africa, and you want it fared on that basis. After the fare is stored, contact Mindpearl in CPT, AA's South Africa ticketing agent. You'll have to fax or scan and e-mail them your credit card and the information page from passport, as well as complete an AA charge authorization form which they will e-mail to you. They will then issue the ticket. If there are no open segments, you will be e-ticketed. If your itinerary includes open segments, you will get a hand-written ticket of the old fashioned red carbon variety. If you've been e-ticketed, you're done. If paper ticket, you'll need to get it. Unless you're going to be in CPT on a day when they are open and have time to go to their office from the airport, better procedure is to have them courier it to you. No point in risking scheduling mishaps. They won't do anything to assist with the courier service, I guess they don't want the responsibility. I arranged with FedEx here in the U.S. to pick it up at Mindpearl and ship it back to me. This was the first time I bought from Mindpearl (previously, before the rand tanked, I used to buy these tix through BA at MRU), and the entire process went swimmingly. Couldn't have been easier. |
Hello:
Just to give you an idea, I booked this in May (paid and ticketed by email with Mindpearl in CPT): CPT-JNB-SYD-DRW-BNE-AKL-MEL-HKG-SIN-NRT-PEK-HKG-JFK-SFO-DFW-LHR-HEL-MAD-CAI-LHR-CPT Base price: ZAR66070 Taxes:ZAR 7112 (about 11%) Total: ZAR 73182 Sort of similar to yours, but: 1) 20 segments (only available before Jun 1st) 2) I have North America, not South America 3) I have two departures from LHR However, I was told that for AA to ticket, either trans-Atlantic or trans-Pacific had to be on AA. I believe that you can't do this without including North America. I was also told that you cannot book any AA codeshares unless you are connecting directly (no stopover) to/from an AA trans-oceanic flight. Good luck! |
One of my staff bought a 3-Continent Oneworld Explorer ticket in first class for me today from Cathay in Saigon.
The base fare is still $8,369.00. The "taxes" however were another $2,649.00. OUCH! |
For future reference, AA's GSA in HCM is on +84-89 330 330. Setting the ticket up through the AA RTW desk and then purchasing through AA's GSA would have saved you over US$1000.
