Is this routing valid?

Hope you guys could help me out on trying to squeeze a side-trip to FRA...but am utterly confused whether this is actually valid. I'm trying to add FRA-MAD LA705 to my current routing which connects me to SCL on the same flight number. Would the FRA-MAD count towards the 4-segment rule in Europe since I'm opting to make a stopover in MAD.

Current Routing

JNB-LHR-CAI-LHR-MAD//SCL-IPC-SCL-LIM-EZE//SYD-CNS-BNE-MEL-SYD//BKK-NRT-HKG-DPS-HKG//JNB

Revised Routing:
JNB-LHR-CAI-LHR-FRA-MAD...etc etc

What type of ticket ? Vast number of problems if you are trying to book a xONEx Are "//" flights ?
Even changing "//" to flights you are still a long way before getting a valid routing

Kiwi Flyer Sep 6, 2008 9:16 pm

FRA-MAD will count unless you ticket it as FRA-SCL (ie no stopover in MAD).

Are the // really surface segments? Looks like you want almost all your intercontinental legs to be on separate tickets (which massively diminishes the value of xONEx and actually not allowed except in limited circumstances).

Some other problems include too many segments (maximum 16 which includes the surface segments)

Sorry...I was trying to be TOO clever by putting the "//" in. Ignore them as I was seperating them out into different continents thinking it would make it clearer but obvious the slashes has very different meaning - doh

Judging from Kiwi Flyer's reply - I've ticketed ...LHR-MAD-SCL... but obviously trying to squeeze ...LHR-FRA-(MAD)-SCL...with a stopover in Madrid but both FRA-MAD and MAD-SCL on LA705. However it seems like this is not possible seeing I have maxed out my segments in Europe. Is this what you are getting at?

thanks

Is this a ticketed xONEx you are trying to change ?
If segments are max'ed out then are no more are possible. That's the rules
Are you wanting FRA-MAD and MAD-SCL on LA705 on the same day ?

I've ticketed a DONE5 - however I am always under the impression that if you book a flight which carries the same flight number, in this case LA705 FRA-MAD-SCL, this counts as 1 segment rather than 2.

True, but only if you book it as FRA-SCL, and you're staying on the same plane (i.e. no stopover in MAD).

Since Europe is not your continent of origin you can buy additional sectors. However, you are still limited to a maximum of 16 (or 20 if ticketed before 1 June 2008) segments. Thus to replace LHR-MAD with LHR-FRA-MAD you'll need to drop a segment elsewhere (Asia or Australia seem the best places to do that) and pay the fee for additional sector in Europe.

Thanks for the replies...think I've got it sorted. What would one do without FT! Will have to buy a separate LHR-FRA-LHR as I have fully abused my 20-segment DONE5 to the max.

Apologies again for the initial confusion!

16 segments maximum

Sorry. As Kiwi Flyer wrote, current rule permits only 16 segments.

But there are still plenty of tickets issued prior to 1 July 2008 which still work to the old rules. The OP obviously has one of those. They can still be rerouted within the rules at the time of issue (i.e. 20 segments).

Can be rerouted as long as it does not need to be issued, I believe.
