Transit SCL or EZE

Going to GRU from SYD in December and I can route either way. The difference in miles is low enough (300) that I really don't care. The extra hour via SCL doesn't bug me terribly either.

It really comes down to LA via SCL or QF via EZE. Any preference for either QF or LA J service?

Cheers,

-Andrew

scl or eze transit

depends whats more important

airport wise scl is a better place to transit than eze

Seat wise I would probably go with Qantas as currently their sky bed seats would be better than the Lan's old offering, however Lan are in the process of upgrading their a340 to new lie flat seats which is better than the 170 degrees or so on qantas, but I am not sure about the progress on this as the website makes no mention of whether this has started, but all of the 767's are supposed to have been upgraded.

So best bet stick with qantas, also qantas flight from eze is direct no stops whilst Lan stops in akl on the way to sydney, so it depends if you mind stopping or prefer the direct flight.

Service wise I guess its up to personal opinions but I would say qantas service in J is more consistent than Lan

I am sure others can provide other information if I have missed anything

Hello OP,

A couple of things...

I'm an American and I had to go through hoops to get a Brazilian visa. I'm not whether you will need one, too.

But Chile has its own $100 US fee. The $100 fee is good until your passport expires.

I do not if you are in transit if you have to pay it. So that's something that someone else can tell you.....having to pay an additional amount of $$.

I too am American and have to go through the same hoops... thankfully I have a expediting service to handle processing my visas.

Thanks for the replies. The QF product looks like everything else, but the LA product does indeed look dated.

Cheers,

SCL is a much better transit airport than EZE. In fact, I just transited SCL yesterday on the way to EZE :D.

The LA A340 reconfiguration hasn't yet started. The seats aren't bad, but they don't lie flat. One of the 5 planes does not have the AVOD system - the other 4 have an older, but not bad system. I've never flown trans-pacific on LA, but have probably 25+ longhaul north/south segments. Food is usually pretty good. Wines are very good. Service is variable, and usually very "formula." I've never flown QF.

SCL transit doesn't pay a fee.

For an 11+ hour flight my priority would be comfort as opposed to ease of transit. For that reason, I wouldn't even consider an old cradle seat compared to the lie flat that QF offer. Yes it is slopey and some people don't like that but as a lounger it is incredibly comfy. YMMV though.

Don't forget than the LAN flight stops in AKL. The only time i'd consider LAN over QF would be in you could get LA F for a similar price to QF EZE-SYD.

If it was the LAN Premium Business i'd be on it in a heartbeat. For me, the new LAN J seat is hands down the best hard product in One World.
