As a vegetarian, I find the food in BA F much better than CX F, which tends to be fairly bland and boring.
|
I was quite disappointed by CX's food in F recently (LHR-HKG-BKK-SIN)
I found QF (SYD-LAX) to be much better and also the JL Japanese menu to be pretty interesting ^. BA, the OW airline I have most F experience was pretty average. Have had some pretty nice dishes (Gressingham duck) and not so (lobster salad and sesame chicken)... |
I quite liked the food in CX F when I flew earlier in the year.
However, it was the cantonese menu to be honest. FD |
For J Class I find CX to be pretty good. I have just taken a dozen BA/QF long haul flights for the past 2 weeks and can say that I missed the CX catering.
Especially on the snack items available (noodle soup, crab cakes, pizza, skewers etc..) The BA offerings (in particular its western offering is weak). Also the Cheese OR Dessert thing is unacceptable on BA. QF can be good when they don't try to overcomplicate things. However I am really sick of the Neil Perry fusion food which just doesn't work. When you compare an short haul flight, the difference is even greater adn CX is definitely the leader. |

Some of the NP fusion food though is pretty poor. In fact I remember getting a fish fusion dish that was just overloaded with salt and therefore tasted disgusting. Fortunately overall their food is usually pretty good with a decent wine list to match. |

Completely agree. Some of the more simple foods such as the steak sandwich is pretty good especially considering its heated in an aircraft oven.

Also another point regarding beverages. I find CX offers the BEST non alcoholic selection in both J and F:
1) Non Alcoholic Cocktail (rotate between 2) 2) Espresso Coffees (Nespresso) (in J Class as well) 3) Premium Chinese Teas (in F Class) 4) Iced Drinks (eg Chocolate, Coffee) 5) HK style Milk Tea |

Nobody has mentioned AA's made to order sundaes in transcontinental and international J/F, which are actually quite good and far better than any pudding I've had on BA. That said, BA does usually have a far better cheese selection, so I guess it's a wash.

I don't know any internationally acclaimed airline that only has "Lipton" as their only tea served in F class. No Earl Grey, no darjeeling, not even peppermint or cammomile. But then again, tea is not really the USA's choice of beverage. I know - cos it was near impossible to find an electric kettle in any shop in San Diego when I lived there. |

The whole point of the food is to soak up all that alcohol anyway. ;)
Here's my ranking: QF> JL (Japanese)> BA> CX> AA >JL (Western) But I would put LA tied with CX for food. Their F service really is quite good. |
