Upgrading ONE4 (econ) to business class (D) - charges?
Hi,
New to the site - hope you can help. I'm in the process of booking a OW Explorer economy ticket, which includes a Bangkok-Sydney routing (departing and booking in London). There was no availablity for the flight I wanted (nor for 2 weeks afterwards!) in economy class, so I got BA to put it through as business class for that leg (Club World, D). From what I can understand of the rulesheet, this incurs a $300 charge, but thats it, no other fees to pay. Can someone confirm whether or not this is true? The sheet says for a LHR-SYD upgrade its $450, but for everything else its $300. I'm pretty sure it won't be treated as LHR-SYD, as I'm actually going LHR-HKG-BKK-SYD, all with at least 24 hours between them. I still don't get how its only $300 to upgrade to business class on an 11 hour flight, hence why I'd like some confirmation. Thanks! |
Upgrading individual segments of a RTW ticket is not permitted, except:
(a) "normal" carrier-specific upgrades (e.g., AA-elites can upgrade AA segments in accordance with normal AA upgrade rules); (b) upgrading an economy ticket to premier economy on the BA flights (and now that it's available, on QF) from LHR to SIN/BKK to SYD etc. It's $300/leg or $450 all the way. You're upgrading to premier economy (or 'World Traveller Plus' on BA) - you're not upgrading to business. You are correct in being suspicious that you can get a paid upgrade to business for that price. On the other hand, if whoever told you that you can upgrade to D for $300/$450 is correct, please let us know, as we'd all like to do that! You may want to refer to the oneworld rules (on the oneworld site) - http://www.oneworld.com/content/libr...rule_sheet.pdf Now that I go and check those amounts (which I'm pretty sure used to be correct), I see that they have now increased them significantly - 12. SURCHARGES Passengers may travel in QF Premium Economy cabin, JL Premium Economy, or BA World Traveller Plus cabin for an additional charge, per flight segment of: Sectors between SWP and Africa Sectors between SWP and Europe Sectors between SWP and North America Sectors between SWP and South America - AUD1100 GBP500 USD1000 JPY112,000 ... and welcome to FT. Hopefully, you will find this place is of assistance. |

Not sure I understand you - my understanding is that you CANNOT upgrade individual sectors on xONEx bookings using $/£/¥/€ etc, EXCEPT to upgrade to premium economy on a LONEx. The ONLY way to upgrade to the J cabin is by using points/miles from the operating airline (namely, QFF on a QF flight, BAEC on a BA flight, and so on).
Can you please clarify exactly what it is you are asking. Dave |
Ooops - too slow. I emptied my beer, and replaced it, and in the meantime, others replied.

On the BA flight (or QF codeshare on it) it is of dubious value now - BA's premium economy is not very good.
