re-issuing xONEx when only one segment left
I bought an AONE3 last year, and the itinerary was TPE-HKG(stop)-Europe-USA-HKG(stop)-TPE, and now I'm at the 2nd HKG stop with only the last segment open. I'm thinking about re-issuing the ticket to become HKG-PEK-HKG-TPE, with <24 hours in PEK and HKG, i.e. no more additional stopovers, since only 2 are allowed in Asia and I have used up all. and after re-issuing there's still only 4 segments total in Asia, within the rule.
but, my agent said they have talked to CX TPE and they said I cannot re-issue the ticket anymore, "because there's only 1 segment left". I don't quite think this rationale (and hence the decision to not let me re-issue) is right, and I have had CX TPE misinterpreted the xONEx / xCIRx rules quite a few times before (and I have corrected them afterwards / asked them to clarify with CX HQ/HKG first) - so I just want to seek all experts' advice here to see if my proposed re-routing now should be allowed under the rules or not ? thanks !! |
You don't say how many segments you have already travelled, nor if the ticket was originally issued before July 1st 2007.
Assuming the ticket was originally issued after June 30th 2007, you are entitled to a maximum of 20 segments, flight & surface combined. From pre-June 1st Starfile: 2N FLIGHT SEGMENTS 3N ---------------- 4N . 5N . 1. 3 SEGMENT MINIMUM REQUIRED 6N . 2. 20 SEGMENT MAXIMUM PERMITTED, INCLUDING 7N . SURFACE SEGMENTS* AND FREE/PURCHASED FLIGHT 8N . SEGMENTS FOR THIS FARE. 9N . *SURFACE SEGMENTS NOT COUNTED AS SEGMENTS FOR 10N . TICKETS ISSUED PRIOR TO 01JUL07 snip 2N CHANGES 3N -------- 4N . 5N PRIOR TO DEPARTURE 6N . snip 30N . 31N AFTER DEPARTURE: 32N TRAVEL ORIGINATING AREA 1/2/3 33N . 34N . 1. DATE/TIME AND ONEWORLD CARRIER CHANGES ARE 35N . PERMITTED WITHOUT REISSUE PROVIDED ORIGIN, 36N . DESTINATION, CONNECTING POINTS AND INVENTORY 37N . REMAIN THE SAME. 38N . 2. ROUTING CHANGES OTHER THAN DATE/TIME AND 39N . ONEWORLD CARRIER PERMITTED AT A CHARGE OF 40N . USD125.00 PER TRANSACTION. CHILD/INFANT DISCOUNT 41N . DOES NOT APPLY. 51N LOCAL SERVICE FEES MAY APPLY. IMHO, CX can only deny your reissue if it would take you beyond the segment limit or the maximum validity. If you would post your total itinerary as travelled, date of original ticket issue, & date of first flight (TPE-HKG) I'm sure it can be rapidly checked out. Edit: June 1 2008 changes irrelevant - Ticket was bought last year. |
the whole itin is way less than the # segments limit:
TPE-HKG-LHR-MIA-JAX/JFK-HKG-TPE, i.e. 6 flight + 1 surface segments in fact, I just double-checked, this particular ticket was actually issued around Feb/Mar this year with the first flight in early Mar. so I think my proposed itinerary change should be ok according to the rules, right ? thanks a lot. |

Sounds much more as if CX in TPE are trying to fob you off because they don't want to be bothered (or are trying to maximize revenue). |
ok, CX in TPE told my agent that I cannot reroute last flight of xONEx from HKG-TPE to HKG-PEK-HKG-TPE, because "there is only 1 segment left".
I just called CX in HKG directly. they first said I cannot do it because I am only allowed two stopovers - then I explained to them that I am not going to stopover anymore in PEK and HKG, all under 24 hours. then they double-checked twice (with whom? I'm not sure) and called back twice and said I cannot do HKG-PEK overnight <24 hours then PEK-HKG, HKG-PEK-HKG needs to be same day (or even, they also mentioned, the first flight available - but seems like this is less stringent). I said I traveled with at least a few of these xONEx tickets every year and I don't think there's any rule about transit being same-day or first-flight available. they are still checking again and will call back later...they said "this is from the rule of these tickets" - I told them if they are able to show me that the rules indeed are like this, I am happy to comply, but not now yet. but is there really any authoritative source they can refer to (or I can ask them to call) in cases like these, instead of making up all the rules themselves office by office ? or, since this ticket was issued by CX originally, do you think AA RTW desk would be willing to help me reroute ? thanks. |
Unless it has become an issue of principles or unless you have a reason to go to Beijing for a few hours, you could route through Tokyo, which is a little longer. HKG-NRT-TPE
The one segment issue is nonsense. Tell them that you want to add the SWP as a continent. Really blow their minds. :) |
yes, I do need to be in BJ for a meeting...

I had two itineraries last year that may help to explain:
* I went to PVG for a lunch meeting and then back to HKG. When I checked in at HKG, I asked the KA agent to not issue me the return BP. She said she could not do it for PVG anyway. * The other is my PEK-HKG-PVG flight. I could not check in at PEK all the way through to PVG. I have to check in the second segment in HKG. My feeling is that from flights originating from HKG, roundtrip transits in China are not allowed, and for flights from a port in China, transits via HKG to the same or other ports in China are not allowed. They are not taken as transits. Transit via NRT (on JL) is an option: HKG-PEK-NRT-TPE. |
finally...they called back and said, after reading through all the detailed rules again themselves etc, they found it's indeed allowed and so went ahead to do the re-routing for me - I just need to pay the change fee + extra airport taxes / fuel surcharge + the differences in fuel surcharge for HKG-TPE vs. original issue time.
so it really helps to know what the rules really are...I have experienced this in a few instances lately (e.g. a few weeks ago being refused the buggy coupon for a flight at gate 45+ when the Wing reception said KA flights were not eligible - which I mentioned in more details in another thread). |
