RTW Award questions

We are planning our second One World RTW and need a little help with the 16 segments.

1.We want to see Macu Pichu and Igazu Falls, but they seem to require that extra segment to get there. Is there one or the other that is reasonable to get to outside our 16 segment itin??

2. Which connection city in SA from Iguazu would you use to go to the Switzerland, Austria, Germany area and where in that area would you fly to? to minimize segments. We will be using the train from that city and return to that same airport to then move to Mauritius, Seychelles or Maldives?? Any preferences there?

3. Which city to then go on to Ankor Wat to again minimize segments with the intent of then moving on to SYD. And should we fly into Reim Seap?

The deadline of August 30th is not an issue as we are traveling 4/15-6/5/09 but the 14 days with only 1, 5 day extension is a bit of a problem. I need to start my 19 day booking period on June 21st and still have work to do.

Any help from past experience will be Greatly Appreciated.

Thanks

If this is an award question you are better asking about in your own airline forum.
Would that be AA ??
The conditions of award flights vary a lot among each frequent flyer program.

Awards can be hard to get. I suspect you (or we = you and another) will have a lot of trouble geting awards in a tight time frame.

You will need to look at the OneWorld routes map for possible routes & cities. See the sticky at the top of page.

As some of the places you list are not served by OneWorld you will need to make other independant travel arrangements

2. Which connection city in SA from Iguazu to Switzerland, Austria, Germany ..
Buenos Aires (Argentina) or San Paulo (Brazil)

angkor

To visit Angkor, I suggest you get a stop in BKK on your award ticket (both QF & BA fly BKK-SYD non-stop). Once in BKK, buy a roundtrip ticket to REP (on PG) to visit the temples

No OW airlines flies to Iguassu Falls so you can't waste a segment.

The only direct flight into central Europe from South America on OW is with LA via Santiago. *A has flights from Brasil to Germany.
Regarding your island paradises: OW doesn't fly to the Maldives (*A does) and doesn't fly to the Seychelles. This narrows your choice down a bit. You will be at the end of the rainy /start of dry season on Mauritius when you want to travel.

OW doesn't fly to Siem Reap, *A does. If you are on Mauritius before and you want to minimize segments I would use HKG as your gateway. CX has a direct flight from South Africa (where you will be due to Mauritius) to Hong Kong where you could take a side trip with Siem Reap airways to Angkor. Once back in HKG continue to SYD with QF or CX.

All in all, maybe you should think about a *A RTW?

I believe LAN has at least two flights per day to Iguazu Falls (LA 4020, LA 4024). The airport codes are AEP-IGR.

Sorry, my mistake. I looked at IGU which is only served by codeshares.

Earlier this year we did a DONE4 but in South Africa booked another ticket for the local legs. AEP-IGR-AEP,EZE-SCL,LIM-CUZ-LIM on LAN Argentina and LAN Peru on a single ticket. LAN has a Visit South America ticket as well but the price estimate from their web was about the same as the ordinary tickets through our local TA.

On the DONE4 we had only the long legs, ...-EZE,SCL-IPC-SCL-LIM-SCL[-AKL-...].

We did Galapagos and Havanna as well so we had LIM-GYE also on the LAN ticket and a few other flights from AeroGal and Copa.
