17 segments due to schedule change questions.

My 16th flight segment was ORD HNL. AA just canceled this service.

1) I assume AA will allow me to fly ORD DFW HNL. I also assume I can take a late (not the latest) ORD DFW the day before.

2) Alternatively, my ultimate destination is Kona. Will AA allow me to fly ORD LAX KOA? Will they charge me for this? Due to the 16 count this would not have been possible before. Any suggestions on how to ask (ie do the change to HNL first...call back to do the kona change)?

3) This is a paper red carbon ticket. I assume I will have bring tyr ticket in to my local airport and they will have to turn that 1 red carbon into 2 or since this is now 100% AA can they turn it into an electronic ticket?

Any other ideas on how to turn lemons into lemonade?

On one point I am sure:

2) Your final segment will be changed to ORD-<new available routing>-HNL

They may, however, allow the Kona change without a change fee being charged if you can do Kona in 16 segments. They will not change to 17 plus change to Kona.

My recollection is that you may not have to exchange the one ticket for two. I believe that the computer will tell the agent that there is only one ticket.

If the ORD-HNL was an open-dated segment, then you will have to reissue the ticket and pay the reissue fee. As long as the original ticket was issued before 1-Jun-2008, then you have 20 segment limit and not a 16 segment limit.

So what happens when you have a 20 segment paper ticket and AA cancel a service? Does that mean I can have 21 segments, or will they make me lose a segment? (which would create a surface sector anyway so still 21)

I forget the rule, but since mine was 16 flight segments + land = 20, this ticket had to be hand printed with red carbons. I was aleady at the max number of segments. So yes, your 20 seg flight would turn into 21.

Feedback on 3) yes, converted to electronic.
