I can get it to work a bit (without booking).
  • MEL-(QF)AKL-(QF)LAX-(BA)xLHR-(QF)MEL for LLONE4
    • charged via QF AUD3499+AUD868
  • LAX-(BA)xLHR-(QF)MEL-(QF)AKL-(QF)LAX for LONE4
    • charged via BA USD4400+USD565
  • LAX-(AA)xLHR-(QF)MEL-(QF)AKL-(QF)LAX for LONE4
    • charged via AA USD4400+USD332
With the "BA" booking, I was asked to contact BA to book, the "AA" and "QF" booking, CC details were requested.

I changed the LAX-LHR routing to LAX-(QF)xJFK-xLHR- and the booking became via Qantas with USD4,400.00 and USD448.24:

U.S. Customs Fee 5.50 USD
U.S. Animal and Plant Inspection Service Users Fee 5.00 USD
Tax description unavailable (IASE) 8.47 USD
Tax description unavailable (KKEC) 6.88 USD
Australian Passenger Service Charge 16.66 USD
UK Air Passenger Duty 59.30 USD

Now, here's two very similar routings and their costs:
  • SYD-(AA)xMEL-(QF)-AKL-(QF)LAX-(QF)xJFK-(AA)xLHR-MEL
    • 3,524.00+211.18 = 3,735.18 AUD
  • SYD-(QF)xMEL-(QF)-AKL-(QF)LAX-(QF)xJFK-(AA)xLHR-MEL
    • 3,499.00 + 541.71 = 4,040.71 AUD

The FAQ must have been updated:

...
Your payment:
  • Payment is by credit card except for bookings ticketed by British Airways where you will be asked to call the local British Airways office for payment.
  • You can book itineraries in First, Business, and Economy Class. It is currently not possible to purchase segments in Premium Economy on-line.
  • On-line service fees may apply according to individual airline policy.

IIRC MCT in HKG on CX-CX connections is 50 minutes.

This tool tells me I don't have enough time on a 1 hour 50 minute connection.

Though I should work , but it was too tempting to try it and so I tried a short version of one of my routings. And I have to say it is a really cool tool.

My playing with it seems to indicate any transit of < 2 hours will be rejected.

(Also longer MCT's are in play for others such as -LGA,JFK- )

I just put my LONE4 ex-LHR which I start in four weeks through the booking tool and it gives me a pricing of 2,293.10 GBP. Pretty much a bit high as opposed to 1,958.50 GBP which is what I paid after booking through AA by phone for the exam same trip, isn't it? That is about 17 % more when you book online.
Is this because it is calculated through QF or BA or something and that AA leaves out the fuel surcharges?

I suppose we could get around this by booking a "tool legal" flight and then having the time change done by a real person. But it would be nice if they could get it right first time round.

Nice try, but for all practical purposes this seems usless to me. For example, in a whole week next May it shows availability in A on only 1 non-stop HKG-JFK. Expertflyer shows availability on every single flight except one.

By the way, has anyone noticed that AA seems to have removed A availability more or less entirely on JFK-LAX (the odd 6:45am flight excepted) even many months ahead?

And linking the ticket issue to the first airline makes it hugely unattractive for anywhere that the first flight isn't on AA.

And it is ludicrous that the "Select Flights" booking tool offers you connecting flights via London for a HKG-JFK segment.

So I really hope the AA RTW desk isn't going anywhere soon!

Ex-Philippines now seems to be priced in PHP for the booking, although the exchange rate (48.82 vs OANDA's current interbank of 48.67) isn't as bad as I'd feared.

However, for MNL-xHKG-JFK-LAX-DFW-ANC-DFW-SEA-LHR-DXB-LHR-HEL-CDG-HKG-KIX-xHKG-MNL the taxes come out at 17.6% even with the new reduced fuel surcharges. Booking the normal way through AA MNL the taxes were 6.9% so I'd have had to pay US$900 per head extra for using this tool rather than the AA GSA. I'm not sure the convenience is worth that much, even if the access to seats and MCT issues can be fixed. Even if I extract the fuel surcharges the tax rate online is 8.3% so it's still more expensive than the traditional way.

Now, if the AA RTW desk could set up an itinerary for me to then ticket online from AA without having to go through the credit card issues with a GSA then that would be most excellent.

Or even simply let me book direct with the AA RTW desk. Why not now that we have pricing by point of departure only?

I haven't had a chance to play with the tool yet. It sounds like a good tool for non-FTers, but perhaps a bit limiting for us?

I keep getting "Sorry, there was an error. Booking engine could not be contacted: input string not in correct format"

Anyone else getting this error? It worked fine for me yesterday, but not today...

On a test booking I did yesterday (using a credit card that I knew wouldn't be accepted), the reservation was made and I received a booking reference. It looks like the credit card will then be processed in Canada, as this is the reservation office that shows up on checkmytrip:

ONEWORLD INTERNET
SUITE 980 - 355 BURRARD STREET
VANCOUVER BC
V6C2G8 CANADA

Even though my first flight was ICN-HKG on CX.
