Is it permitted to fly the same North American (non-transcon) sector twice?

The title says it all.

I just got off the phone with the (usually reliable) AA RTW desk.

I was just beginning to rebook a DONE4 that had begun last December in NRT, but got told that I could not fly:

TPA-ORD-YOW (stop) YOW-ORD-TPA (stop) TPA-ORD-LHR-NBO (stop) etc etc

I am within my NA sector count. But was told that I was flying TPA-ORD twice, and that this is against the rules.

I've just gone through the star file again, and I can't see that rule, but maybe I am just (a) tired and (b) hopeful.

Yes, it is permitted. You could even stop in ORD three times if you wish.

No such rule that I know of. We've done MEL-BNE-MEL-BNE-MEL as part of a DONE4 at least a couple of times. (Not great miles, I know, but it's going to see the mother-in-law ....)

I am starting to lose track how often I have flown between LAX and DFW in the last couple of years....

That's not considered 'transcon'. But you couldn't have done that if your MEL lived in PER cos its in the rules that you could only do that route once.

Guy Betsy - not sure I follow. I know that MEL-BNE isn't transcon (not even close) but the OP isn't doing transcon either - I think that's the OP's point.

Sorry I was in a DIZZY spell and misread everything!

Well I am glad my feeling on the rules was confirmed. Time to call back and hope I getter a better informed agent this time. Since the AA RTW desk is usually so good, I was doubting myself.

Maybe you were talking to an Agent who had just moved over from UA because the Star Alliance RTW limits the numbers of transfers at each airport. ;)

Or, refer very old XONEWCX rule. :p
Once upon a time, XONEWCX permited only one flight for a specific route and direction.

Or, even the Contemporary oneworld Global Explorer (xGLOBnn) where:

...
H. The same city pairs/sectors cannot be flown more than once in the same direction.

Well, we've come full circle, so to speak, from August 1:

Rule 4. (i) The same city pairs/sectors cannot be flown more than once in the same direction.

I just got caught on that rule, which makes embedding three NYC-BOS round trips in one DONE3 no longer feasible...
