Waitlisting for xONEx
Like many FTers, from time to time I have been wait-listed on ordinary none-RTW flights for, say, a business-class seat. If one became available on the night, I flew, otherwise I waited for another flight or flew further back in the a/c.
Does a similar possibility exist for AONEx & DONEx reservations? Looking at flight inventories in the last day or days before a flight, it's not unusual to see F4 A0 or J9 D0. I guess Revenue Management is holding out for last-minute F or J pax, which is their job. All the same, I'd be happy to take my chances on the wait-list in many circumstances. Does anyone have specific experience in this area? When you wait-list, is it for a seat in the x cabin, or is it still based on booking classes? TIA. |
If you are asking whether the airlines will eventually release L/D/A inventory, thereby clearing the waitlist, rather than see a cabin go with empty seats, my answer would be that it depends on the airline. I think, based on my very limited experience with waitlists, that IB, LA and QF are quite capable of flying with empty seats and not budge an inch. AA seems more accommodating.
By the way, a forum search for 'waitlist' will bring several threads on the subject. |
If you are going through the AA RTW desk, I have found that many times when the trans cons from LAX-JFK are showing A0, that one call from the RTW desk will result in an A class seat being released.. AA is extremely accomadating if booking through their RTW department....

QF is exceptionally stingy. CX seems to open up some day-before-flight though if loads are low.

I don't think BA allows waitlists anymore for D class. I tried once to waitlist D on BA (before it was disallowed), but it never cleared.
