RTW Newbie question

Hi All,

I am eyeing a RTW trip at the moment and looking at ex-MRU as a starting point and have few questions.

Can the following be done : DONE4 to Africa, Asia, Australia and South America, I can find suitable routing all the way except back to MRU from South America (Looks like I have to go via MAD or LHR)

How to actually buy the ticket in MRU :)

Many Thanks

It is impossible to create any kind of oneworld explorer itinerary that does not include Europe so, yes, you have to go back to MRU, or anywhere else in Africa, via Europe. As for the purchase of the ticket I suggest you do a search for MRU; you will get hundreds of hits.

MRU is probably the cheapest place to start an AONEx, but CMB may prove cheaper for a DONEx when official pricing is known. (See this thread for more info, though some of the info there is dubious, at best.) You will probably also save one continent starting in CMB, and avoid the issue of difficult D availability on the QF JNB<>SYD flights, should you be thinking of using that route. (Personally, I expect still to opt for an ex-MRU, but to go for an AONE5.)

Right now CMB is not the best priced place to Done4 or 5.
JNB is very good for DoneX and MRU is the best for AoneX

In the last day or so, new DONx prices ex CMB have been posting on E/F.

This was posted in this thread:
These new base prices are:
  • DONE3 - USD6252
  • DONE4 - USD7128
  • DONE5 - USD8196
This still compares favorably, say ex Japan where base fares are as follows:
  • DONE3 - USD6072
  • DONE4 - USD7221
  • DONE5 - USD8283
And ex JNB?:
  • DONE4 - USD5201
  • DONE5 - USD5898

Be aware that some of the prices on the OW website are incorrect. A DONE4 ex NRT, which shows on the website as Y743,200 is actually Y780,400. They appear to be pulling from an old price file (again)..... unless, of course they have actually reversed last year's price increase....

All the prices I quote came from Expert Flyer within the last two hours.

I note the oneworld Sri Lankan prices on www.oneworld.com have recently been updated.

They may well come "from EF in the last 2 hours" but if you ask EF for the Yen price ex-NRT (as the U.S. $ price is irrelevant), it'll tell you (correctly) that the answer is Y780,400 - which at the current rate quoted by www.oanda.com is $7,564. Where EF gets a U.S.$ equivalent price of $7,221 from, I have no idea. If you convert the old ex-NRT price of Y743,200, you'll get $7,204.

Caveat emptor. Check the local currency price (which is the only one that matters) not the U.S $ price.

I'm looking at starting a DONE4 in JNB and EF shows $5150 in USD. The local currency price is 39950 ZAR - the same as Oneworld's Fare Estimator. The ONANDA site shows that to be $4,979.74 at the current exchange rate. The USD has been on a bit of a recent rise.. hopefully it gets better still before I fly.

Not that it should make that big of a difference with other currency conversion internet sites but I use this one:

http://www.amadeus.net/home/tripTools/index_us.html

Mainly because I use the site for other FF related queries listed on the side menu, as well as AIR AVAILABILITY and TIMETABLE (top menu).
