Real Flat Beds on Oneworld
Currently only BA and CX have REAL flat beds on their aircraft (well CX is progressively installing them). QF will implement the SAA style flat bed on a380 later.
I just realised LAN actually introduced the SAA style flat beds already! wow they really kept it quite and I only find it out today! IB/AY/JL/AA have the annoying Slant seats RJ have flat beds but an older version than SAA. MA - well no beds at all |

LAN Rocks!!!
My wife and I just completed 4 LAN flights (RT JFK - SCL and SCL - IPC (Easter Island)) with the new flat-bed business class seats, and we found the business class seats to be more comfortable than BA's. In addition, we thought the overall service (IFE, wines, duvets, and pillows) surpassed BA's Club offerings. The only downside --- make sure that you sit on the left-hand side of the 763s, as both restrooms are located on the left-hand side of the plane, and the crossover area in the galley is often blocked.
btw, BA's Executive Club is issuing LAN business class tickets from the US to Easter Island, with a free stopover in Chile, for 80,000 BA miles. During high season (i.e. now), we thought that a very good rate..... |

I'm sorry, which class are you referring to?
QF has flat seats in F, and correct, the new Skybed on the A380 will have flat seats in J for them. The RJ flat seats on the A340s are extremely comfortable, despite their age :) |

Different seat manufacturer and very design, not to mention one is 73" and the other one 80". The only thing they have in common is that they both have their new J seats facing towards the front of the aircraft.

From the pictures I don't thinkt eh 7inch difference in pitch is real pitch (prob your feet will be go into the back seat shell of the seat in front.
Pitch is the distance between one part of the seat and the same part of the seat in the row in behind (or in front). This is a very standard definition. If I didn't know any better, I could almost believe you were another FT'er! :) |
There are some seats on IB which go almost completely flat in the 340-300 and 340-600. I always try to get these when doing two consecutive nights on MAD Brazil day trips originating in London which seem to be a popular part of my travel plans at the moment.
Of course, if you actually know about what is flat, you have to take the 2.5 to 3 degree nose up pitch of the aircraft into account during the cruise phase of flight. Unfortunately, most of the interior designers have absolutely no idea about this whatsoever. So, you end up getting a better night sleep on a "flat-horizontal" bed by sleeping head forward. Happy landings |
