DONE3 exCMB
I'll be working in India for the next six months and plan on using my location there to stage a DONE3 to combine a trip home with a mega-MR. Oneworld.com shows the following fares:
ex India - 238,810 INR / 6022.95 USD exBangladesh is feasible, though it will take a bit more for me to get to Dhaka. exCMB is challenging because there's only one OW flight to/from there. I spoke to the AA RTW desk and they said if I can't terminate my DONE3 in CMB, I can't originate there. After thinking about it, I don't see anything in the rules that say the final segment can't be a land segment, so I put this together -ex Bangladesh - 5270 USD ex CMB - 518,500 LKR / 4701.24 USD CMB-AMM-MAD-CAI-LHR-MAD-SJO-LAX-DFW-ANC-DFW-SFO-JFK-HKG-DPS-NRT-DEL,CMB I would do the intinerary up to LAX and then fly back to India to complete my time there. The balance of the itinerary would be vacation / MR later in the year. Mileage Monkey calls it valid and the Oneworld Round the World Planner doesn't complain too much.. The question is has anybody flown an exCMB ONE and had a problem with not being able to return to the origin? thanks, Silverado |

With the current situation, i.e. CX's suspension of flights to/from HKG, there's no way to originate a xONEx in Sri Lanka/CMB.
The problem is that you can get out of CMB on RJ to AMM, but you cannot fly back to your point of origin without breaking the rules. You would require a second entry into Europe and a backtracking between continents (e.g. CMB-AMM-other Europe/ME-North America-Asia-AMM-CMB) or a final international land segment within Asia. Both these options are clearly out of discussion. Thus, until CMB is connected by oneworld carriers to some other Asian destination, xONEx ex-CMB are not to be booked. |
The only way an ex-CMB will work is if CX restarts flights from withing Asia,
or an exception is added similar to Bangladesh. |
I appreciate the collective insight. I should have tracked down the actual rules rather than the Oneworld.com page.
I have a few months before I need to make any decisions, so I guess I can wait and see if CX restarts their operations or an exception is made. It could be just a matter of time.. as it is the Bangladesh - BKK/SIN exception is no longer strictly necessary with the inclusion of Dragon Air in OneWorld. I rather hope they keep it. SIN works for me and BKK is not a bad option. While waiting for something to break on the CMB front, I'll start redrawing plans for exDAC, including how to get there from BLR. |

Yes there is, and CMB is not in the list so the idea will not work:

For the time being Israel is cheaper for xONExs than Jordan, as fares ex-TLV are denominated in USD rather than JOD. In addition, Tal Aviation (HQ in TLV) is a highly experienced AA GSA, so you can probably have an xONEx issued by AA in Israel and not pay a lot of fuel fines and nuisance charges levied by other issuers (especially big LHR-based airlines.)
