Effect of Egypt Air joining *A

Would 1W get more serious about ET? One of the few decent carriers around.

I can hardly see Egyptair as a worthy addition to any alliance... Remember that VOLUNTARY plunge from the sky by a MS 767 in 1999 or 2000 off Long Island ? It is now viewed by many as a rehearsal or planned training part of the 9/11 attacks.

ET is a different story as one of only 2 successful African airlines (with SAA), and a 85 % + ratio of intra-African pax not going through ADD or, on the contrary, connecting there. It really is "ET Avoid Home"..., which I fully understand having been there way too often.

I dunno... will Air India's joining Star make OW more serious about Jet?

Now JET... THAT would be a worthy addition... AA had a brief codeshare agreement with Air Sahara (misleading name, theyre in India... just like Air Luxor is in Portugal (:rolleyes:) which is now part of Jet.

Egypt Air has recently turned around and restructured itself. Better, improved airline overall. It is taking the Star Alliance thing seriously. Within 10 years MS will have improved beyond recognition. No more random dips in the Atlantic.

Why take a chance ? And on top of it they are a dry airline (They used to have small nets of red, white, and champagne "Happening to be at the lounge exit" for self service, but even that is gone...) So I am told, I wouldn't be caught dead (pardon the pun) flying them.

really ? who are these "many" ? anyone apart from you ? I have never seen this particular rumour before perhaps you would like to provide a source ?

Can I assume you will be petitioning OW to kick JL out of the alliance on the basis of the JL350 crash in 1982 when a pilot with a history of psychiatric problems put a DC8 into Tokyo Bay with the loss of a number of lives ? or does that crash not fit in to your conspiracy theories ?

Everybody involved in the FAA and NTSB at the time... something strongly suggested by the official report on the crash, and this in spite of all the watering down as requested by the State Department and backed by the very top as in "We must not antagonize the Egyptians who are among our few allies in that part of the world". Btw, all the MS Airbus orders at the time are attributable to those findings and it took years before MS went back to Boeing with 777s.

Suicidal pilot isn't the same thing as a fanatic planning deaths of many. You could equate the SQ with the same in that case.

Cofyknsult-You seem intent on saying that EgyptAir is a bad airline not worthy of being in the *A. Again, the crash happened 8 years ago. And it wasn't a build-up to 9/11 either. All you're doing is speculating about something without any real proof.
And EgyptAir doesn't serve alcohol.
Give EgyptAir a chance before you condemn it !
