Global vs. One World Explorer

I have done a few *ONE, and while generally happy, I usually prefer the star alliance RTW that are mileage based, as it lets me stop twice in the U.S. between South America. For example: LHR-JFK (stop for a week) - EZE-GRU-ORD (stop for a week) - NRT-LHR.

It seems pretty clear this is not possible with the *ONE, but is it possible with the Global explorer? I asked AA desk once and they said no, I have read the Qantas rules and it ignores South America.

If this sort of an itinerary is not possible, what is the point of the Global Explorer?

Given that you would be backtracking between regions I'd say the answer is no.

Code:

92N . 9. BACKTRACKING BETWEEN REGIONS AS DEFINED UNDER
93N .    APPLICATION IS NOT PERMITTED.

The OWE has a transit-only exception for NA but it looks like the GE does not.
