Tax Discrepancy

I was looking at booking a reward ticket from LGA-YYZ on AA. I have BA miles, AA miles and Asia miles. I called all three programs to compare the taxes. AA charged C$44.xx of tax, Asia Miles C$80.xx and BA C$124.xx! Does anyone know why there is such a difference?

Thanks!

Fuel fines would be my guess

I know you said award, but just as a reference, these are the taxes of a normal LGA-YYZ fare chosen at random:

Tax: US Transportation Tax $9.65
Fare (B1): AA YTONYC Q14AQNR fare (rules) $128.70
Tax: US Transportation Tax $9.65
Tax: US September 11th Security Fee $2.50
Tax: US Passenger Facility Charge $4.50
Tax: Canadian Air Travelers Security Charge C$8.42
Tax: Canadian Goods and Services Tax C$1.20
Tax: Toronto Airport Improvement Fee C$20.00
Tax: US Immigration Fee $7.00
Tax: USDA APHIS Fee $5.00
Tax: US Flight Segment Tax $6.80

Mine too. Treatment varies enormously by FFP.

This is very typical. The AA taxes are usually the lowest.

I came up with an even bigger difference: LAX-HKG RT on CX in Business in Oct 08. I don't have Asia Miles, but I compared AA and BA. BA online was showing 100k BA miles plus US$154.81 in taxes, which they won't itemize. I booked with AA and it cost me 110k AA miles but only US$35.40 in taxes (plus the $15 phone booking fee)!!!

Gosh, I hope my HKG departure tax is covered in this! How much is that alone?

For CX, it includes taxes and surcharges, e.g. fuel surcharges.

Simple - BA charges fuel surcharges on this award flight but AA does not.
