AAward ticket - how to return from Beijing

I've already figured out the first leg of my journey from Phoenix to China. Now I need to figure out the best way to return home from Beijing using a Business class Aaward ticket (miles saver).

I've flown AA tons, so I'd really like to try other carriers. I don't mind flying a few extra hours.

I think my choices are primarily AA, CX, and JL.

For business class, which would you pick and why?

If using an Asia1 zone award, JL is your only choice, you can't go via HKG without using more miles (110k biz instead of 90k). From Shanghai you could fly JL or AA.

If using a Oneworld award (115k), you could use JL, CX, AY, BA, or QF!

Good point, thank you. I'll probably take JAL.

You can also buy a cheap ticket from Beijing to Shanghai and then pick up the AA flight to ORD.

Why would anyone pay for PEK-PVG and fly AA to ORD when you can fly JL with much better service?

JAL has newer equipment and better flight attendants than AA.

Don't do any partner flights, though. They screw those up. Book the flight with whichever airline you choose and make sure that airline is handling all of the flights and ticketing.
