Hi,
can I ask the opposite question? I am LH SEN / *G and will need to flight Iberia and AA soon - What would be the best program on the "other" site? I know that this is the opposite thread, but ... Or do whatever they do to guys like you. Of course, I've never clicked on the link (I'm not that suicidal), but I know it's there... somewhere... :) |
Since you will get better responses over on the other side, I've moved your question there with a new thread.
Good luck! (You'll need it with OW) :p Regards Oliver2002 mod-in-training M&M Forum |
To supply an adequate answer to a question like this - it'd help if you could let us know your flying patterns and class of travel.
In general, AA is popular for its good value earn/burn ratio, as well as the ability to gain AA platinum status via the Plat (Lack of) Challenge, a backdoor to AA sapphire status which is achieved by earning 10 000 Qpoints on AA flight numbers within 90 days. |

Thanks for the warm welcome
Hi,
thanks for the warm welcome and please, do not give Oliver2002 a hard time - he helpped me earlier and is a nice guy.^^ I am SWISS fan/supporter and I am actually not interested in BA/AA/IB. But: I like south america and Star Alliance / Lufthansa/SWISS and TAP do not have many destinations in South America. Equador, for example, is a white spot on their map. So, my flighing pattern would be to traval to south America from time to time on the cheapest flight possible, avoiding to flight via Miami nor Los Angeles, which leaves only Iberia. If I have the chance to get silver to use the Business Lounge, this would be good enought for me. Can you help me what kind of Oneworld membership to take? Thanks |
Your options are almost nil if you do not want to use AA/BA/IB. You could check out LANPASS, LAN's FFP. IB is not generous with giving miles to its cheap economy flying passengers, usually 30%. Remember that there is a daily LAN flight FRA-MAD-SCL which you could use to go to South America. All LAN intl flights give 100% miles for economy class travel in LANPASS. You need 80K kms in LANPASS to reach the status level that grants lounge access.

Chumbawumba, welcome to the OW forum. Despite oliver2002 ironic comment there are some great people here. And yes, to all the OW people, oliver2002 is a great guy, too.
Answering your question is not that easy. There always is an advantage to join the FFP of the airline you actually want to fly with the most. Having said this, IBs program is quite poor. Most people would go for AA maybe. If you would actually fly AA or BA then one thing to consider is getting a Qantas Club membership (even when you join another FFP). This gives you access to AA/BA/QF operated lounges regardless of class of travel. But you do not get access to IB or LA. In some countries the Qantas Club membership price is tax deductable. |

Do you need to collect those 80īkm in one calendar year or in an elapsed year? Do the LAN work together (Chile, Equador etc.) Thanks anyway. |
