Is there a mileage limit on a DONE5?

Just comparing the pros and cons of OWE Vs *A RTW.

A trip i am planning perfectly fits the 20sectors for OWE but exceeds 39000miles on *A RTW.

So does the DONE5 have a mileage limit? My journey is as follows (done using the oneworld website program)

ARN-LHR-JNB-HKG-DEL-HKG-PEK-NRT-PER-MEL-CNS-SYD-AKL-LAX-SJO-MIA-NAS-MIA-LGA, JFK-LHR-ARN

Im also not sure about the going through HKG to get to Delhi and then coming back through it again, but Delhi is like a rat-trap, you cant go anywhere else... :td:

No.

xRWSTARx is mileage based
xONEx is continent based
xGLOBxx is mileage based (and includes a few non OW airlines)

On xONEx back-tracking within a continent is perfectly fine (and between continents in some circumstances).

Moving this over to the Oneworld board :)

Nope. No mileage limit on a DONE, but, given the rules, there is a very real practical limit, as you will see when you start trying to maximize miles. It is impossible to break 100,000 for example. And difficult to get very close - even within 80%.

There where threads in the past about routings with the maximum possible miles. If my memory serves right it was around 60.000 on a DONE6, but involved seasonal flights to Alaska inside the US and also Europe--Australia (no stop in Asia) - Asia - US..... . So no limit by itself.

I've built several routings of 75K-80K miles. Some of those include a couple open-jaws though. I do have a LONE5 with no open jaws and ~78K miles and an awesome DONE4 (no Australia or Africa) with 75K and zero open jaws that originates in CMB. It does take advantage of some of the seasonal ANC flights you mention in NA though.

If you're trying to maximize miles on AA (like the majority of OW RTWers I think) Asia is a really difficult continent to include since JL doesn't give GLD/PLT/EXP bonus miles. I struggled with that and also forming an efficient LONEx since many of the OW airlines don't give 100% credit for L class.

Things change; as per this thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...26#post7980826 , open Jaws count in the 20 segment limit from Jul 1st; also, CX is not currently flying to CMB. :(

About the open jaws....that is awful, truly awful :( Back to the drawing board...

Here's almost 86,000 on an xONE6 which has to be flown Biz or First to be worthwhile. Also requires starting and ending from expensive points unless one uses an open jaw award ticket. Too bad it essentially wastes Asia though since it only touches it on the SYD-LHR flight.

And needs to be booked soon - while KRT is still allowed (with BMed being sold to BD it wont be allowed from, is it October?).

Well one could always replace it with IST and still end up with ~84K miles. Probably a more interesting destination anyways...
