Bloomberg: S7 in talks to join oneworld
|
Woo hoo - Magnitogorsk here we come.
|
And I thought the OP used 'S7' in the title to be show-offy with an obscure IAT code ("hey, anyone know when PG is gonna add some flights to LPQ?").
|
Excellent for biz trips. Now hoping for China/Korea/Japan - Siberian major cities and Europe - Siberian major cities codeshare flights and especially services to Bratsk. ^
|
It's in talks with BA (which is based much further away). But what will FinnAir think? (It seems to me that one of FinnAir's current selling points within OW is its connections into Russia, even if only to a couple primary cities.)
|
Wouldn't it be funny if their IATA code wasn't S7? That would really confuse some of the purists on the forums...

Still, it would make the return leg of a trip on the Trans-Siberan railway a bit easier. |
Also would add a few more OW connections to Asia, plus the 'stans and caucasus region (useful with BMed going). Is there a list of which Russian airports are in Asia?

In Asia, S7 flies to several Chinese cities including Beijing, Seoul and Bangkok. Europe has routes to Germany and some Balkan holiday destinations. All in all, this could be a very big thing for OW and hurt LH, OS, OZ and KE quite a lot. |

I have seen S7 in HAJ a few times. And if they would join OW then there will be more connections into HAJ. Then I can go to London via Moscow rather than via MAN..... |
That's interesting, especially with the ownership issues surrounding Malev and their KrasAir connections.

Thanks for the attention to detail, DownUnderFlyer. Of course there should be a ; after Beijing instead of a ,
And even if it might come as a surprise to you, there are a few people doing business in Russia and Central Asia. Also from Hannover and London. |
and lots of russians travelling all over the place...

I know there are not only a fwe but many people doing business in Russia. My father used to fly SU every week. And Hanover is quite a good airport for flights to Russia. I am just frustrated that there are no OW flights between LHR-HAJ anymore therefore my comment about flying to London via Moscow. *A has quite good connections to Eastern Europe via VIE, MUC and FRA but OW was always a bit behind. S7 will be a welcome addition. |
