One World Options from DC to Europe?
BA has some great flights form IAD to LHR but due to anti trust, I can't earn TATL miles on my AA account.
I think it is time these anti trust concerns are re-looked at. Star Alliance and Sky Team have great options from IAD TATL but for One World, you really only have Iberia now. I don't consider BA or AA "One World" for purposes of TATL since you can't earn miles on the other carrier. From IAD you have Star Alliance or SKy Team: United LH Air France KLM SAS all of these are great TATL options. Where is the Anti Trust concern??? |
Just to be nitpicky Air France and KLM are Skyteam not Star :)
But the antitrust concerns don't have anything to do with the total number of carriers that fly over the pond, but due to BA and AA's stranglehold over LHR slots for flights US-LHR. With the new open skies agreement taking effect next summer maybe the regulators will be willing to reevaluate their stance if AA or BA applies to be allowed to do codeshares/give/redeem miles on their US-LHR flights. |
I'd be happy if they just treated flights TO LHR on BA different than flights THROUGH LHR... That would at least open up much more of Europe for this DC-based AA/OW flyer.

There are plenty of gateway cities that have BA transatlantic service but not AA.
1. Open an Alaska account, book BA transatlantic miles to AS, everything else to AA. Still 25% for discount Y, but better than a poke in the eye... or, 2. Go with IB. Besides, MAD is a more pleasant place to connect than LHR. Use the AA codeshare on IB6242 and get full AA credit. |
This is a related question on OneWorld to Europe (and also, after 3 months of being a spectator, my initial foray into FlyerTalk posting...)
As the first post mentioned, BA restricts mileage accrual on AA Translatlantic flights (and vice versa.) Does this affect other OneWorld members? For example, could I earn miles in my LAN account for taking a BA flight from IAD to Heathrow? Or does BA restrict accrual to only BA Exec. Club members on transatlantic flights? Thanks... |
G'day brimalloy, welcome to FT.
The accrual/redemption restriction is solely for transatlantic flights to/from the U.S. using AA flights with BAEC and BA Flights with AAdvantage. |
Many thanks for your helpful reply.
