Advice/Feedback on AONE5

This is our first RTW. Doing AONE5 starting in LAX. We are AA EXPs and hope to maximize miles, maximize true first miles, and visit some places we have never been (BKK, JNB/CPT/VFA, MEL, AKL).

Our current itinerary is:

LAX-MIA-BGI-JFK-SYD-AKL-MEL-HKG-BKK-NRT-DPS-HKG-JNB-VFA-JNB-CPT-LHR-MCT-LHR-LAX

We only have 19 segments but have just over 60K miles (79% in true first).

One option we were considering is LAX-MIA-JFK-BGI-JFK (all w/out stop over), but are concerned about the connect time and 1 hour turn around in BGI. Has anyone ever done this turn? Do they make you go through immigration, back through check-in/security, to get back on the plane, or can you transit? Because of our worry about new passport rules and possible delays, we've done MIA-BGI-JFK which has 2 hours 20 mins in BGI.

Thanks for any feedback you can provide.

You can only do BGI like that on a US originated ticket if it is BGI-xJFK-SYD using the USA exception to re-enter the country of origin in transit. So as stated (with a stopover in JFK after BGI) it is not possible.

How about LAX-SJU-JFK-SYD-...

That frees up one more segment so you could do another round trip somewhere.

Not without a big rule change on transcons.

Oops - yes - sorry about that. Edited.
