SCL to CUZ is one or two sectors
 

Hi guys.

I wonder if you can help me out. I wish to fly from SCL to CUZ, I understand the only way to do this is via a short stop over in LIM. Is this considered to be one or two sectors. The oneworld timetable program counts it as 2 sectors. So what constitutes a stop over? I thought the 24 hour rule was the only definition of a stop over. Both flights are operated by Lan Peru.

Any ideas?

If it is two flight numbers then it is two segments; the connection time is irrelevant.

It is also irrelevant if the airline is the same or not.

In your specific case, it is correct that you must connect in LIM. Also you should check your connection time. I booked this specific routing yesterday and assumed that 60 minutes would be enough time but Lan required 90 minutes and so it means waiting around LIM airport for an extra 4 hours to get the next plane out to CUZ. In addition, they weren't even sure if you could check the luggage all the way through. Does anyone know if you have to pick up your luggage in LIM and check it in again for CUZ.

I would think so, and the immigration lines @ LIM can be really bad at certain times of the day.

Would happily give you the answer to this had LA not lost my luggage when I flew this route. Beware if your flight from SCL is merely making a stop in LIM and then continuing on to MIA, based on my experience your luggage is likely to travel on to the US without you.

Re the extended transit, why not head into the city for a couple of hours?
