Mine's not till Jan. Still in 2 minds.
Only AUD700 to change to NRT. Plus change fee for rebooking my award to NRT iso CMB. Question - Am I able to just delete the CMB segments (ie start and end) of my DONE and tag on NRT ones to my itinerary without rebooking the whole itinerary? [am booked with AA] edited to add - DONE4 itinerary isnt ticketed yet |
Compared with CMB, NRT is also much easier to get to from Oz, and much easier to depart from if going either to Europe or North America. I've decided to make the switch.
|
CX has now suspended services to CMB until at least October 27, according to the email I got from CX Seoul in regards to my booking.
I will now change the ticket to a NRT departure, and try to find a way to make up the missing miles to get to Executive Plat with AA. A plain substitute of the CMB sectors for NRT leaves me a few thousand QPoints short! If I route CX ICN to NRT via TPE, I can get the miles I need. Does any one know if the 1hour45min connection in TPE would be enough? I could check through to NRT from Seoul, and then just change gates, while hoping that my luggage would make it! |
That's it - the stress is just not worth saving AUD700. NRT it is.
Anyone has any idea how long AA NRT will agree to hold the DONE4 reservation if I change the start/end segments over to NRT? AA CMB gave me a very generous deadline. Tried calling AA NRT today to enquire but it seems like today was a public holiday in Japan as they were not open. Managed to get an extra 1000 BIS miles on my newly planned route. :D |

It varies widely. I don't know about AA NRT, but IME AA RTW will give you from a few days to right up to the day of departure, depending on the agent you talk to, the reasons you give and, it seems sometimes, the phase of the moon.

Ok if I simply do a reroute now on the same reloc without creating an entirely new reservation - will my current ticketing deadline set by CMB remain (they extended the original deadline set by ATW desk substantially) or will it be reset since there will be no CMB sectors post rerouting?
|
Hmm - guess I just have to try to find out. I'm happy with the current deadline (it's in fact way more time than I need). Might leave the CMB sectors sitting in there and only change to NRT whenever I;m ready or when I get some form of panicky msg from AA.

I've changed my CMB sectors to NRT, for July 4 departure. I was going to leave it, but my fiancee didn't want to 1) take the risk of getting stuck in CMB and 2) being blown up. I tried to assure her that there was little to no chance of that happening, but the cost of the tickets out of NRT was worth the peace of mind (for her at least! I could have waited a little longer) |
As to ticketing deadlines on a xONEx ex-NRT, my curent experience is that they are very flexible. After setting things up with AA-RTW desk, I made the ticketing arrangements by phoning AA-Japan in February. I gave them my credit card information and was due to pick up the ticket in early April at NRT airport and begin the itinerary a few days later. From February on, my reservation was shown as "ticketed" on AA.com. In late March I decided I needed to delay the start until late June and phoned with that information. It still reads as "ticketed" with the new itinerary but no charge has yet been made against my credit card. I assume that the charge will not be made until just before I am due to pick up the ticket but no one has stated that directly.

Plain "Ticketed" on aa.com does not mean a thing.

If they haven't charged you one reason might be that their policy requires that they get your physical signature within X days after they run the charge - Cathay/CMB at one time had a 10-day maximum. |

Not quite. SQ's majority owner is Temasek Ltd (i.e. the Singaporean government investment arm), it is not the only owner so I very much doubt your explanation above. In fact it is almost half in private hands!
For reference, SQ's major shareholders are listed on this link: http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...stor/stock.jsp But most of these alleged "private hands" are the Nominee Divisons of Major International Banks..so I dont think you could call them "private hands" as there is now way of knowing that these Bankers are not Nominees for the Singapore Government. You will also observe that Singapore Based DBS Bank is the leading Nominee, and not surprisingly they are also the leading provider of their Affinity Credit Card Services to SIA and probably both SIA and The Singapore Governments main Banker. I am sure further investigation into DBS would most likely show that their Main shareholder is none other than : The Singapore Government. QED |
